Salida Colorado Real Estate: A Dab of History and Six Distinct Areas to Live.
I want to introduce you a good friend... small, unpretentious, beautiful and fun. My town, Salida Colorado, is all that. The following blog post will introduce you to Salida and then talk more about the Historic Downtown area.
In this post and over the next several days, I will introduce you to the places to live around here, one area at a time.
1. Historic Downtown Salida Colorado 2. Greater Salida and Poncha Springs 3. Rural Chaffee County Surrounding Salida 4. Howard Colorado and the area 5. Cotopaxi Colorado and the area 6. Buena Vista Colorado, Nathrop CO and the area
Salida Colorado, a resort town with 5500 people, has been a favorite in magazines and newspapers over the past 10 years. According to the New York Times, Salida has "The Outdoors life with no Attitude" (December, 2008). Diversion Magazine called Salida "one of the 10 best places you've never heard of" (November, 2008).
US News and World Report stated that Salida was an "off-the-radar" destination with lots to offer but without the Colorado resort prices. It is in the book, America's 100 Best Small Art Towns. And, my favorite, Outside Magazine called Salida Colorado a "sweetly unpretentious town".
The Utes inhabited this area for centuries. It was named Salida (exit in Spanish) in 1880 because it is where the railroad emerges from the canyon between Salida and Canon City. When the railroad came through and precious metals were discovered in the area, many came to start a better life: including other areas of the United States, Italians, Sicilians and Austrians. We still benefit from the diversity of cultures in our area.
Now the fun begins.... The next 6 posts describe various areas in and around Salida to live. Enjoy!
