A sad goodbye

By
Real Estate Agent WV0026375

We had a Bradford Pear tree located near the entrance of our subdivision, Greenbrier Pines.  I loved this tree!  The beauty of the tree greeted me everytime I enter my subdivision. But, I am sad to say the storm on Friday, June 29, took the tree town.  Below are photos of the tree in the different seasons...

The tree showing it's glorious Spring blossoms.

No longer will I be greeted with the beauty of this tree....so sadly I have to say goodbye!

poem by Joyce Kilmer

About the Author:  Veterans of the Foreign Wars asked the government to set aside a fitting stand of trees to serve as a living memorial to Joyce Kilmer, who was killed in action during World War I.  See Joyce Kilmer's Memorial Forest Page. Although Kilmer was both a soldier and a poet, he is most remembered for his poetry about common, beautiful things in nature. Kilmer's best known poem is "Trees."

Oh Rebecca, what a beautiful tree it was indeed! Wouldn't it be nice if only sick trees could get knocked down during a storm .. sadly those are never selective. We had to say good-bye to a beautiful old Weeping Willow - it's such a bare space now, I avoid looking at it.

Rebecca, you did have quite the nasty storm, and it did destroy a beautiful tree - sad to say!      Hopefully you can find another and watch it grow into the same beauty?

Our neighborhood lost a lot of Bradford Pear trees over the years so the homeowners association decided to purchase 20 to be planted along the main road. They were able to choose a stronger variety. They look great; all have survived several years. Maybe your association could replace this one you lost. It may help in the re sale of the home.

Rebecca, there are lots of Bradford Pears in my area.  I also had one in my back yard that was snapped off at the base by the tornadoes that came through our area in April of last year.

Rebecca--So sad to read this post.  Hope the house sells to someone who will plant its replacement.  That was certainly a devasting storm across a long stretch of our county.  Be safe.

Rebecca Lake Ridge has beaucoup Bradford Pears in our median strips - they are not deeply rooted and regularly succumb to the elements.  They are being replaced with a new variety that I am told is more weather and wind resistant.

Jennifer, I do as well.

Toni, thank you.

Karen, I need to check into this new variety and may add some to our yard...as we lost over ten during the June 29th storm.
