My guess is very few realtors use Yelp! But I am going to outline the reasons one by one why every realtor should be using the site. First, however, I was recently interviewed because of my Yelp! account and featured in a realtor magazine. The reporter asked me why it was so important for my business and I gave her a list. Now, I will share with all of my fellow Rainmakers.

The biggest and most important reason to have a Yelp! account is because Siri of Apple's IPhone fame uses it exclusively to locate businesses when a customer asks her for something in particular. So, if you are in South Florida, like myself, and are looking for a realtor you can ask Siri and she will point you to all of the realtors in the area that are on Yelp! However, there is one catch. Once you are up and running you have to be reviewed, but that is easy. Just ask one of your happy customers.

Yelp! is also great for attracting buyers. If you were a buyer from out of the area you would obviously want an agent who is very familiar with the area. A buyer can use Yelp! to find out who is writing the most reviews around town. The agent with the most is going to attract the most attention. It's a no brainer. Will this attract sellers as well? Not as much, but it wouldn't hurt to get your name out there with some good reviews in case a seller is researching someone to hire. So what you are you waiting for?! Get out there and Yelp!

Great post Morris! Thanks for sharing your input about Yelp! It is a very valuable tool & should be implemented in every Realtors marketing. It's been part of my Essential Real Estate Package for awhile now & has been true to benefit agents.

Thanks again!

I do have Yelp! account - and just don't know what it is doing for me. Not an Apple junkie - does Siri know about it?

(oops ...I checked, what I have is Yelp! app only on my droid...)

I just created the account and will wait for Siri's blessings.........lol.

Morris... I preach preach preach Yelp to brokers every day... Besides Siri and Apple, it's the best ROI for Google Juice... Be where everyone is already looking. Great post!

I think that I put our brokerage on yelp awhile ago. Hopefully no one has said anything bad. I should go check.

Can't say that I heard of YELP! in New England, but will check it out tomorrow!

Thank you for sharing,

Morris... Let me clarify. I preach agents should be on Yelp as a reviewer. I haven't pushed them to be a business on Yelp. I get your point and its a good one, especially now with the Siri connection. Where I'm coming from is it's powerful to be a reviewer for visibility reasons. If people are searching your community and they keep running into your reviews with an opportunity to connect, that's marketing. Again, good post and the Siri thing opens yet another door of possibilities.

Morris, I have a YELP account but haven't done much with it. Thanks for the reminder about Siri. So many places to have reviews - we need review syndication!

I'm using it but I haven't used it to it's maximum potential.  I'll be working on getting reviews from past clients so my rating rises and my profile will pop up in SIRI or the Yelp directory more often.

I have heard the same thing about Suri using Yelp information to make recommendations.  The internet is really changing how things work!

I have not done this yet but I think I will have to...particularly if my good friend Siri uses it to find businesses!

I am humbled by all of the responses.  I thought that most people already knew about Yelp.  The common theme I keep hearing, however, is that most agents think is only for restaurant gigs, etc.  Not so.  It is for the review of any business, and all of you are a business.  You have to remain active with it too, just like any other site.  It's easy to do with the Yelp app if you have an IPhone though.

Sometimes a good review from you will land you a free meal too!  I have had several business owners respond to my reviews in positive ways too and then let me know that they took my advice.  On the other hand, never use the site to extort a free meal or favor from a business.  This is now the rage and will land you in big trouble, not to mention that it is morally wrong.

Interesting point about Siri.  I say that YELP is really bad news because anyone can leave any kind of review depending on their mood.  They don't have to be a client to leave something nasty.  We had a circumstance like this last year & it was worse than removing a Zillow review.  I really think it's a waste of time & it's not reviewed for accuracy.

Hi Morris - I know about yelp, but haven't really gotten involved because I get invitations and suggestions daily as to all the sites I should be on, and it seems to be endless.  I just got my invite to Pinterest, which has been helpful to some realtors.  I'll have to see if I have time to add more sites to what I'm doing.  Sounds good, so I should check into it.  Thanks for the reminder.

I realize that there are a great deal of apps and websites out there that are supposed to help us all as realtors and it is tough to keep up with them all quite frankly.  My advice is to stick with those that you are good at or at least enjoy and concentrate on those and then do the others here and there so you don't get left out of the loop.

Morris, thanks for the plug for Yelp.  I had heard that Siri uses Yelp.  I have been on Yelp for two years and have not really utilized it as much as I thought I would.  I guess I will take time this week to incorporate it into my bplan marketing.  Thanks and have a great Sunday!
