Are you protecting your identity?

Intelius Opt OutI was at a class a few weeks back, and I was learning about the new Keller Williams eEdge system. We were going through the contact section of the system and we learned that when we clicked on a leads name, we were taken to the Intelius page for a list of people around the country with the same name. There was a collective gasp in the room. I clearly felt it, even though it was silent.

On the one hand, grabbing people's information so we can contact them is great. But when it is OUR name, well that is another story. I was sufficiently creeped out. Honestly, I knew that was out there. But I was in a bit of denial I guess.

When I got home I did a little research and found that you can actually opt out of their system. Nice, huh? So if you want to Protect Your Identity a little more, go to their Opt Out Page. You will have to scan in an ID, or a notarized letter saying that you are who you are. Give them your email address for notification that they got your information and you are done. It is free and takes just a few minutes.

Protecting your identity and personal information is getting harder and harder these days. I was glad to see there was at least one place I could block my information.

Sally- I think it is great to reconnect. I am just scared that we are placing that in front of safety. As Realtors you are pretty public, so being safe is always an issue. Glad that you could reconnect with an old friend!

Skip- Yes glad I was reminded that this sight is out there.

Larry- good for you! Be safe!
