Benicia Peddler’s Fair

 

Benicia has a variety of traditions and yearly events that keep the community thriving and keeps the visitors coming.  One of the popular events is the Benicia Peddlers’ Fair held on First Street every August. 

 

The 2012 rendition of the Benicia Peddler’s Fair is the 49th Annual and will be held on Saturday, August 11 starting at 8am.  This free event takes place on First Street all the way from J Street down to the waterfront. 

 

Those in the know actually show up before 8:00 though since the vendors start setting up their booths at 2:00 am. 

 

A wide variety of treasures can be found and bargained for as you travel up and down First Street.  As many as 300 vendors are expected and will be selling such collectibles as antique toys, rare memorabilia or handcrafted arts.  As many as 30,000 people are expected to take advantage of the Benicia Peddler’s Fair to shop to their hearts content.

 

To quench your pallet, restaurants along First Street will all be open as well as several vendors bringing their recipes from afar and selling from booths. 

 

Parking can be a challenge but even that is made easier by the free parking at Benicia High School (on Military West) with free shuttle service back and forth to the Peddler’s Fair. 

 

The event is a fundraiser for maintaining the historic California Gothic church and Parish Hall.  In addition, proceeds are donated to Benicia to support various programs.

 

So, come enjoy a day of shopping for treasures, tasting great food and supporting a good cause, all at once.
