Balancing Optimism with Reality by Feng Shui Manhattan

I was watching "You've Got...." on AOL.com.  The presenter Neuroscientist Tali Sharot discussed the the situations of thought patterns when people are too optimistic.  She explains that when you are too optimistic it's almost like you set yourself up for failure, ironically.  She does bring up a good point about being too optimistic and leaving reality at the front door which could have the effect of creating problems down the line.

Feng Shui teaches you to always have a positive outlook, to be optimistic but to also be realistic and be open that change will happen.  We teach you to look at your past, understand your current situation and know the actions you take today are lining up your future.

This is also what Tali spoke about.  Be optimistic but not lazy about the actions you take.  An example from her is, riding a motorcycle and not wearing a helmet because you believe nothing will happen to you.  You are setting yourself up for an accident, in fact it's like your asking for trouble.

An example of being optimistic and realistic from a Feng Shui perspective could be wanting to plan a trip to Costa Rica.  The  thought comes into your mind, you speak about, think about it, start researching activities and ways to travel and believe you will travel there.  Being realistic you know right now you do not have the funds or time to travel but you are optimistically planning and taking action to work and save money.

That is a mixture of optimism and realism blended together.

Great point, Laura. It's good to be an optimist, but always with realistic thoughts.

Cnat' resist to share a joke: Pessimist doesn't see the light at the end of a tunnel, optimist does see the light at the end of the tunnel, and realist is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and the light is from approaching train. LOL
