What do you do when one of your favorite places closes?

Find another!

During the hyper-local post challenge, I wrote a post about Chester's Legacy Tavern - Painesville, Ohio a place I truly enjoy and have been to many times.

Two weeks ago, my cousin came out to Fairport Harbor for the first time.  We were looking for a vanity and I wanted her to check out a few at Active Plumbing Supply.

After we shopped at Active, we went around the corner to Chester's.  It was about 12:15 and the parking lot was empty.  Normally you can't find a place to park.  I noticed there was a sign on the window:

Believe me, I was shocked.  It was one of my favorite places, the food was excellent as was the service, and it is the only restaurant I know in the neighborhood.

Now what?

When I was in Fort Lauderdale visiting Tony and Tim, they mentioned the Sunset Bar and Grille at the Marina.

We decided to give it a try.

I did not take this photo, but the restaurant is such a wonderful find.

We sat out on the deck since it was such a beautiful day.  The sun was shining and there was a wonderful breeze. My cousin said she felt like she was in Nantucket, not Fairport Harbor, Ohio.

Food and service were superb and the afternoon was delightful.

If you're a local and you haven't been there yet, give it a try, I highly recommend it.

Yes, I will miss Chester's, but I'm so glad I found the Sunset Bar and Grille.

This is where I headed last night, to watch the fireworks that never took place.  I was sitting at a picnic table up on the hill...............great view of that gorgeous sunset I posted earlier today.

I was just ready for bed................

Hi Roger,

It is sad when a landmark place closes..but there are always places to try and find another perfect fit. Looks like you did just that!

Hi Roger~ It's so sad when any business closes, especially a local mom and pop type of place.  We had a great Italian restaurant that closed a few years ago.  They had good food and great service too.  I did recently find a new place in town, Portofino's.  It's a wonderful thing when you find some place new.  Let's hope that our new finds have a long "life".

Morning Roger what a laid back place that looks like.  At my age to be in the sun with the ocean breeze and the golf courses around.  Can we say man I wish I could live there part of the year.

I agree Al and Peggy, I'm happy with the new place.

It's not always easy to find a good replacement Lottie, hope you find yours soon.

That's all we can do Lou.

Hard to find a good Italian place too Tammy..............most are very generic.

I thought the same thing Debby, it's so cool, and right here in Fairport Harbor.

It was a shock Endre, especially since I had just been there the week before and all seemed fine at Chesters.

You'll find one Patricia, good luck with your search.

Yikes, maybe we're both responsible Kevin..........who knows.

Oh boy, more pizza John............how lucky for you.

That was the shocker Dorie, it's a landmark place................hopefully it will re-open under new management.

You think that would have helped Cal?  Could be...............

Glad you found a great replacement Donna...............I think the Sunset will fit the bill for me, but I will miss Chesters.

I feel the same way James, anyplace warm and relaxing.............

So far it has Conrad, thanks.

Of course #50, it has to do with food!

Me?  Miss a meal?  Not on your life Sheila................LOL.

BARFF-I hate it when that happens....with everything else changing, it would be nice to know that there was one place you could go to that was always going to be there.

I HATE it when that happens.  It's happened too many times.  One of my all time favorites closed and we didn't know....just like you, we showed up all ready for a great meal and instead got a "closed" sign.  Broke my heart!  Their prices were great too, and that's probably why they ended up out of business.

suggestion:  Add an update to your "Chesters" post to state they are now closed.  You don't want anyone heading over there after reading your post and getting disappointed.

Roger: That happened a lot during the bad days. Thank heaven that trend is over. There are several new places opening and that is good for us all.

Roger, As you know in NYC they come and go. I was upset when my favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant Ollies closed. But now I love the new place 5 Napkin Burger and guess what? Ollies To Go opened a few blocks away. I'ts much smaller with only a few seats -mostly take-out but the food is even better. One door closes a new one opens!

It did happen more then Evelyn, but it will always happen and we'll always be looking for new places.

For sure Mitchell, they come and go in NYC.  Glad to hear you like the new burger place and Ollie's opened a few doors down, so cool.  Check out my post today Mitchell about a NYC meet-up on July 31st.

Sorry to hear that, Roger.  It's so nice when you find that "one" place that is comfortable.  We have one here too.  I'm nervous now.  8-)
