Hash Tag

Hash tag… shmash tag… Twitter and tweet.  Face Book, Linkedin… blog…yada yada yada.  My head hurts, my fingers hurt and my butt hurts too!  I’m hunched over my computer at least once a week trying to figure it out, sign in and sign out.  Just figuring how to add a social media button to my site is hard enough. Yeah go ahead and laugh you tech savvy young and old...you just don’t understand!

I need to get a handle on the whole social media thing. I’m pretty scattered.  I don’t know about everyone else but I am wondering about all the time I have consumed doing this.  Is it still better than the good old fashioned phone call or face to face chat?

Considering that most people don’t answer their phones much anymore and prefer voice mail, email or texting to speaking, I guess social media expertise is a necessary skill. I don’t want to annoy anyone by actually talking to them!  I mean everyone surfs right?...not that kind of surfing...had to throw that in there just in case...have you been anywhere lately where all did not have phones glued to hands?....yeah you too.

I suppose I have widened my business horizons.  I have made new connections and picked up business too, but in proportion to the time I have devoted I’m still not sure.  Carra Riley calls this stuff the “Cosmic Cow Pie” and I find that term very appropriate.

I am a child of the 60s.  I am a trailing catcher upper on the tech front...#SlowLearner. I still use a desk calendar and pencil and try to talk on the telephone on a regular basis.  My Mom would probably say “not true!” about the telephone stuff but that’s another story…three hour time difference Mom, it’s a killer:(

See...some of that short hand even seeped into this blog.  All my kids write like they text and their spelling stinks!  What’s this world coming too?  OMG I really do sound like my parents.  Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

Ana

Good afternoon Ana. The best teachers are our kids cause if we want to keep up on what they are doing we need to speak their language. I totally agree about everyone now days speaking fluent chat but not being able to spell chat. lol

Hi Randy, you are right about the kids. I have four little IT experts in my home and I try to use them to the fullest....when they are not too busy to stop texting and face booking LOL.  They all run when I am trying to figure out a new toy, thanks for commenting.

Why isn't this post Featured??  Suggested!  I can totally relate.  I've all but given up on Twitter....I just don't get it, and I've never really understood the appeal.  My AR posts go there automatically, but other than that I rarely tweet.  I really only spend time on facebook and that's more personal than anything else....don't have a business page and don't want one.   one more thing:  My kids can't believe  I use a check book to pay my bills....just not comfortable with auto pay!

Ana, the first thing i did after reading your post was to hit the suggest button.  I think this is the way a lot of us feel.  I too am a child of the '60's and forever feel like I'm playing catch up.  It is necessary (technology) because you need to communicate on the level your clients do.  I really hate texting, but that's the only way some of my clients communicate.  I've seen some atrocious spelling do in large part to texting...technology can be a good thing, but we've lost or are losing some of our social skills...sadly.
