This past Saturday my husband and partner George, our friend Michael Madsen and I manned the Nostalgic Homes sponsorship booth at the Running of the Bulls.
Now prior to this event, I had no idea what the Running of the Bulls was all about - just hoped they'd not be running after me, but I knew it was a benefit race for the Tennyson Center for Children. So I signed on...
In a nutshell, the event is inspired by the running of the bulls in Pamploma Spain, where daring and crazy individuals run in the street with the bulls on their way to the bullring. Every year several are seriously gored, occasonally someone dies. Our event was not quite so dramatic.
Basicallly it was a footrace that started over on Tennyson Street and ended in Highlands Square. Participants dressed in white with red scarves, belts and so forth (to honor the Spanish tradition) and were pummeled, whacked and otherwise encouraged by members of the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls - Brunhildes on skates armed with foam baseball bats!
It was a totally hilarious event and we were delighted to be part of the action. And all for a worthy cause. Visit the Tennyson Center's website, 222.childabuse.org for more information about the good work they do over there, and please consider donating to bring this event total even higher!
The Rollergirls informed us that they are #1 in their league. Check out their schedule online and take in a roller derby - these girls are dy-no-mite!
