Make sure your Air Conditioning Filters are Clean – Photo

As the HOT summer days hit us here in Sacramento, we can burn up a lot of energy using our cooling systems. One of the best ways to maintain an efficient air conditioning system is to keep it clean. The intake filter is a great place to start. If it is getting dirty and dusty – Change It!

I always look at filters then advise my home sellers that buyers look up so clean those filters.  Not to mention the $ they will save in energy bills.  Come on.... Change the filters!

Tom: Yuck! You don't want to breathe in any of this either. I presume some of it gets through. But, yes, that would make the air conditioner need to work so much harder, ergo, higher electricity bills.

You are right Hella, not the best looking air quality is it?

The harder the unit has to work to get the air in, the more it will cost.

They're called air FILTERS for a reason.  They don't last forever so they do need to be replaced on a regular basis to keep the air clean and the unit working properly.  Thanks for the reminder.

Excellent advice!  I changed ours about 6 weeks ago and just for fun checked it about a week ago.  I was astounded.... the new filter was so dirty it was almost black.  It was scary!

Hi Tom,

That filter is disgusting.  Can't imagine breathing the air circulating through it.  Life can get crazy sometime so I put a reminder on my calendar so I don't forget to change mine out on a regular basis.  In fact I do that with a lot of maintenance items around the house.  As I get older the memory is getting a bit slower.....................

Tom, It is so easy to forget about checking and/or replacing air filters.  I now have recurring reminders in my calendars for regular chores like this.

Doug, it doesn't take too much effort to do.

Thanks funny, but true Wallace.

Roger, you ever get that "wheezing" filter sucking for air? That's usually a good sign that it is time.  :)

Stay cool Sheila.

Things can build up pretty quick Jeanne and Ralph.

I like that way of thinking Paula, maybe I can remember things that way.   :)

I need to start that too Chris.

Dear Tom,

Unbelievable sometimes how BAD the filters are! Great reminder!

Lynn

It is one of those things that can often get overlooked, we just need to be reminded once in a while.
