As real estate agents, you know that carrying a camera around is always a good idea. You never know when you will need to snap a quick photo of a new listing or of your real estate team at a special event. But what kind of camera do you carry? Do you have your handy Nikon or Coolpix that can easily fit in your pocket, or are you carrying something even lighter and more compact than that? While those cameras are great and produce quality images, we don’t always have them on hand, which is why knowing how to effectively use your camera phone for photos is an awesome tool.

Keep Your Pictures: Do you ever take a photo and immediately delete it because the quality of your camera phone just isn’t up to par? I have a tip for you: keep all of your photos! Your camera screen is small – thus the resolution won’t be nearly as good as it will be on your computer screen. Even if the picture is blurred, tilted discolored, or whatever the case may be, you never know the real quality until you see it on a better screen. Who knows, you might have captured something spectacular and not have known it!

Practice: We’ve all heard the saying “practice makes perfect.” As corny as it may sound, this is so true – especially when it comes to capturing great images with your camera phone. Just the other day I was admiring the photos that a friend of mine takes with her iPhone.

“Ugh. Why are your pictures so much better than mine?” I asked her.

“Because you don’t know how to use your phone.” She replied.

Of course I know how to use my phone! I am a prodigy of the 2000s for Pete’s sake! But she was right – sort of. I do know how to use my phone and I do know how to use the camera on my phone, but what I didn’t have was the patience to practice. Your camera phone can be so much more than just a “point and shoot” device. Go through the options on your camera and experiment with lighting, zooming, color alterations, etc. Take it from me - you don’t have to be a professional photographer to take great photos on your phone.

Gadgets: As I mentioned, your camera phone can be so much more than just that. There are so many cool apps out there (such as Instagram) that allow you to make your photos cooler than you ever thought possible. In addition to apps, the world of technology has introduced some very cool gadgets and equipment to accompany your camera phone. For the iPhone, check out the iPhone Shutter Grip, iPhone Shutter Remote and the iPhone Scuba Suit. You can even get different lenses such as the fish eye and macro/wide angle.

Taking photos with your camera phone shouldn’t be the last resort when your forget your digital at home. In fact, it should be the first choice. In today’s fast-paced world of ever changing technology, the ability to work wireless is extremely important, especially for real estate agents. Get acquainted with your camera phone sooner rather than later and you’ll be saving time and energy. I really like the comment about the small screen.  I've done this in the past and have noticed that it's a huge difference
