14 Comments on Just My Photos ~ Bannerman's Island Castle
Looks like it might have been a pretty interesting place back in its heyday.
Good morning Janis. I would love the opportunity to tour an old castle like that. If walls could talk...
Good morning, Janis - What a wonderful photo! If only these walls could talk - imagine the stories to be heard!
Janis...how cool is that. I lived in that area for many years and never knew about it.
That is cool! I'm going to pin to Pinterest.
Jeanne and Ralph... this is the building they used for the Arsenal.. too far gone to restore, but preserve they will. There is another building on the island that they lived in.. and they are restoring that one ...
Randy.. this building is just a shell.. it really is falling down. They are close to the fund raising now to start the restoration of this structure. I hope soon before more of it crumbles
Barbara... the island has no water, no sewer and no electricity. It is tiny. when the owners built the arsenal and lived there they had quite a bit of explosives in that building... and yes.. a few major explosions..
Jeffrey.. If ever in the area.. you should take the trip over to see it. The recent tours and fund raising has changed the ability to see some of the great parts of the castle and the island.
thanks Debbie... I will too, but i did not get that far yet! I will probably blog more about their effort and more photos soon. I want them to get traffic so that they can restore and renovate the project.. The Granddaughter is still alive and working on it.. along with others.
Awesome.... Glad you shared and hope you have a wonderful Wordless Wednesday!
The Bannerman's Island Castle is so cool, I'd love to see it Janis. Love the photo!
Thanks John.. Enjoy your day!
Roger~ Thanks... it is a really interesting place to visit..... just 50 miles up the Hudson River.. a short trip by boat from NYC...
Janis, I am so glad they are trying to preserve the ruins. Having lived in Europe I always enjoyed the fact that you could see 1000+ year old ruins and I could visualize how people must have lived in the old ruins.
Hi Janis, I have not yet gone to Bannerman's Island but my husband and I have talked about it-it looks well worth it and you have now inspired me to get there!
Joanne.. we totally enjoyed it although Sunday was rather hot.. The do the tours through October I believe.. Well worth the trip!
Endre.. This building is actually more beautiful from the outside than their actual residence.. not sure how that happened. They lived there with no running water.. or electricity ever. Very interesting story goes with people and the island.
