We often hear the expression "whatever it takes" and even use it ourselves. I'm a little leery of using it because it can imply illegal or unethical conduct. Rather, I say "whatever it takes that is rational."

What I'm building to is the decision by Direct TV to let Viacom drop 26 channels at midnight this morning for some 20 million subsribers. I dare saw that whatever the issues are or have been, Direct TV did not do whatever they could or there would have been a resolution.

If they are in the business of supplying digital TV programming for a fee, and subsribers have paid them expecting to receive certain channels as part of their package, I'd saw that Direct TV came up very short on its mission.

If I was Direct TV, I would not have let this happen, and now that it has I would have it fixed by midnight tonight.

Steve, I never quite viewed "Whatever It Takes" in those terms however you're correct and I now stand corrected myself.  Adding "within reason" makes much more sense to the phrase.

Steve

Looks like a classic dropping ball of on the part of Direct TV.

Good luck and success.

Lou,

The are telling us that this was just something that happened, but I don't know why it had to come to this. :)

Steve, like the rational part! Unfortunately, human involvement often removes it! Enjoy your day and hope they resolve this shortly!

Wayne,

Yes, ethics often goes out the window in business disputes and competition. Thanks. :)
