Times ChangeBeyond death and taxes you are NOT going to escape in life from another constant. It is CHANGE. Nature embraces change whereas if you look around in business and in life in general people FIGHT change throughout their lives. With the pace of change nowadays, particularly TECHNOLOGY, that is NOT going to fly.

I illustrated this post with technology stuff from typewriters to iPads to a futuristic iDesk soon coming to a home office near you to let you know the breathtaking stuff that might be in your house in the blink of an eye. As we get older the change is tougher to absorb cause we lose the familiar and it disturbs our mind out of our comfort zones and habits.

Apple iDeskI don't have all the answers for coping skills but lets look at the many areas of change. Death, divorce and marriage, health issues, career changes, all sorts of relationship changes, financial issues, changes in responsibilities/roles, changes in personal habits, where you live, vacations, holidays, violations of the law, tax changes that impact you, changes in work hours or conditions, changing type of work, pregnancy, adding a new family member, being fired or layed off, change in social activities, different sleep pattern, the list seems endless. So,

Three Tips for Adjusting:

  • Continuous learning - get yourself educated formally, by professionals, associates DEALING with that change
  • Action - always be a person of action working through the change. Do not let life happen to you other than initially. RESPOND to the change and do not sit on the sidelines
  • Serenity prayer - Always be able to put into that bucket what you cannot change and be good with that

Life will happen to you ready or not, and some days even change on a dime. Be an adult with it, and for sure open minded about it. We may all GRUMBLE about change at the Senior Center one day with our peers, but the best of us ALWAYS will learn to ADAPT, and go with the FLOW!!!
