The Surfing Madonna Surfs Again in Encinitas CA
The Surfing Madonna has quite a history, and she became quite the news story, and not just locally.
The Surfing Madonna is a beautiful, colorful mosaic work of art (formally titled “Save the Ocean”) that burst upon the Encinitas CA scene over a year ago.
The Surfing Madonna rankled quite a few citizens, including the town council, while charming many others, and was later removed from her display spot along Encinitas Boulevard at the rail road bridge.
The Surfing Madonna’s whereabouts, and future, were unknown for a period of time.
However, she emerged as a label on 2 Surfing Madonna “Save the Ocean” wines offered by Carruth Cellars in Solana Beach (the bottle retails for around $25 with $1.75 from each bottle sold going to a charity organization set up by artist Mark Patterson that is geared toward ocean preservation) and became quite a news story.
The Surfing Madonna is surfing again, now safely on display at the corner of Jasper and the Coast Road/Route 101 in funky Leucadia (Encinitas) nestled on a wall between Café Ipe and Surfy Surfy Surf Shop (surfboards, clothing). I must say she looks pretty good there, having visited today while out touring properties in the area. Café Ipe is a cool little café with coffee, tea and pastries, Internet, and plenty of room to sit in or out and enjoy the Surfing Madonna and Leucadia life along the Coast Road.
It's great to see the Surfing Madonna back and all that she stands for.
