Seattle Snow: It's snowing outside my office right now....

It's snowing outside my office right now!  The evening commute will not be fun....

We have had a lot of challenging weather here in Seattle for the past few months...quite unlike our famous mild maritime climate.  November had record breaking rain fall and flooding, and after the Seattle Seahawks vs the Green Bay Packers game a sudden snow storm caught the commuters and game goers in a 6 hour "ice rink" commute home.  In December, we had windstorm that toppled so many trees causing "The Great Seattle Blackout" 10 days before Christmas and over a million homes lost power in Puget Sound, many for day, and as long as 8.   Yesterday while driving I was caught between Belltown and Lower Queen Anne when wind gusts started pushing my car around, so I went to Alki to take photos of the wind waves on the south side of Alki looking towards Brace Point....

A friend who just started working at Microsoft last week just called me to tell me she is stuck in the Microsoft parking lot, and has decided to wait for the traffic to clear before she tries to drive home tonight...Patti tells me that there is about 3 inches of snow now.....

I hope everyone gets home Okay.....

We are supposed to have clear sunny skies soon....

Updated for 7:10 PM....still snowing....

This is what I came to when leaving to drive home...

We have yet to have any significant snowfall here in NH. We are feeling the effects of El Nino.

It is now starting to get cold it has been very very mild here.

Jay, I have been hearing about all the warm weather the Northest has been expeiriencing...the cherry blossoms are blooming in Washington DC!  Keep warm with the cold weather coming.

Scott, I have never put on chains!  I have an Explorer (you can see it in the first photo...it's white...not just snow) with traction tires so it usually goes OK...it's the hills around here that are the "tricky part"!  Well that and the other drivers!

Marci, I emphatize..ICE..is worse!  Thank you for the nice comment on my photos!

I never thought of Seattle as having snow. But then again, I was a little suprised when the weatherman said tonight that there are possibilities of 3" of snow in Las Vegas this weekend. This has really been an unpredictable winter nationwide.

Hi Deborah, its been an odd December/january,They had a record high in Michigan and New York/Boston with over 70, and you are having snow in Seattle. As for us, it is a bit warmer then usual in South West Florida Ft Myers. Now we have these cold front, for a few days, which are a bit of ajoke as we get still 68-72 during the day. I wonder if one could cross country ski in Seattle. record rain for november? AS if you guys didn't have enough rain to start with. Great pictures.

John, when was the last time you all had Snow in Las Vegas?  It would be really very beautiful at night with all the lights!  I was born in Tucson, Arizona and on occassion (rare) it would snow (so rare it never happened when I was there!) last time was a few years ago on Easter as reported to me by my dad who lives there still.

Lloyd, YES...today you could cross country ski here in Seattle!   We did have record rain in November...of course the rain total would not be impressive to Houston, and other parts of the US....our Record Rain Fall Total for the Month was 16 inches!  For us that's a lot, our average rain fall for the year is ususally about 28 inches...it "rains" often but it is very light, kind of like a heavy, heavy fog sometimes.  Glad you liked the pictures, thanks!

I will post an Snow update later today!

Damn, I hate that snow!!! Snow, bad.

I'll be adding you to my bloggers page. You may have started your blog on the 5th, but I'll still put you up because you have a good happy photo of yourself here! I'll be working on that later tonight.
