DANGER!! Dogs, A Hot Summer, And Cars Don't Mix Well AT ALL!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

As the weather around the country heats up, and seemingly gets hotter day after day, there is a HUGE danger out there that many unsuspecting yet ordinarily kind people may forget about.

It is being TRAPPED in vehicles as a pet while Mommy just runs into the grocery store for example for a few things. After all, she won't be long....

I found the impact of this danger superbly acted out with two recently released public service announcements by Italian actress, model, and Dancing With The Stars alum Elisabetta Canalis. Think if YOU were in that car!!

Be smart, act properly, and learn from the videos.

It just makes sense to leave your pet at home. I can't believe that people need to be reminded of this every year, and yet we still hear news stories of children dying because a parent left them in a hot car. We don't hear about the pets this happens to.

I really noticed it recently - returning to my car after a half hour shopping trip, the car was like an oven. I don't take Mac on errands with me this time of year. He doesn't get it, but he doesn't have to...I get it! Great reminder Gary.

Vehicles heat up very quickly to over a 100 degrees with all that glass acting like a magnifier.  Unless I'm going to be in the car with the AC running and dropping my 2 canine kids off somewhere like the groomers -- they stay home in the summer.

People should be prosecuted for committing this act! It is definitely animal cruelty!

Thank you! It makes me crazy that people treat pets like that...they wouldn't leave their kids in the car without A/C. Here in Florida it can be brutally hot...I keep hoping pet owners will be smart!

It's beyond me why people think it's ok to do this. The list of what to do is super helpful. Thank you!

This is a scene that replays itself way to many times, and occasionally with children.

Breaking down the door before death of an animal if nothing else works.  Been there.

Hi Gary, When you think about what can take place by people doing this, it makes you wonder how they could do such a thing. It makes me cringe to think about this.

I can't believe how stupid some pet owners are Gary!  After all of the information about this and still there has to be a video to try to get people to pay attention....Don't get me wrong, cute video but sad that it is necessary!

Hi Gary - this is an excellent post and you are right about awareness for animals. Cars heat up so quickly. I was in the desert last weekend where the outside air temp was 120 degrees, and locals were saying the cars heat up to 180 when it is so hot like that. Animals overheat quickly.

Gary, I didn't have time to look at the video, but am SO THANKFUL to you for putting the word out. Dogs go about 10 degrees hotter than we do. Maybe this was already mentioned, but can't be said ENOUGH. I have left notes on cars or simply waited til people came back and gave them a piece of my mind.

I even put water on my dog's feet and head to cool him off.

I will never understand why people do this.  If I sit in the car for a few minutes after I shut it off this time of year, it's already too hot to stand.

Gary, I also hate to see people bringing their dogs to outdoor festivals.  It is just way too hot for the dogs to be out on the pavement and stressed out.  Good post.

Thanks everyone so much for being considerate with your animals and KEEPING them out of those hot cars this time of year. Spread the word now with others, and be on the look out yourself for this dangerous situation YOU might even see in the parking lot, and with those guidelines above on that card, you know what to do now!!! All you guys are so very, very kind!!

Mona: Thanks much. I hope we all continue to get the word out on the danger of the heat with cars in the summertime.
