Hastings is one of those charming "cottage country" towns today, just situated on the eastern boundary of the region known as the Kawarthas. The Kawarthas have thousands of fresh water lakes and have been a recreational centre in Ontario for generations. Hastings in particular is
Because the town is such a draw for boaters it has a busier downtown core than similarly sized towns with more shops and restaurants than one would expect. It certainly has that small town Ontario feel to it, and it's fun to take a stroll through town and check out the cenotaph, the legion, the old churches and the other buildings that make towns like this memorable on a warm summer's day.

Malcolm, looks like our type of place. Wish you area is closer to Erie, PA. A few years ago we took our boat through the Erie Canal from Buffalo to Rochester, NY area. Great trip.

Hi Mary, we get a lot of boats crossing the lake from Rochester and coming up the Trent Severn, apparently it's a great boating outing.

Malcolm, this town seems so familiar, I am sure we have happened upon it on one of our pleasure drives while at the cottage, if not, you know we will make it a destination on one of our future drives...
