You can get back to work faster in Utah than any other state in the US.  New data shows that Utah is the 49th lowest in the US for the length of time residents collect unemployment insurance benefits. The average unemployment duration rate for the US is currently 14.4 weeks. However, the unemployment duration rate in Southern Utah is 13.2 weeks. That’s over a week less that the national average.

Southern Utah Unemployment Rate

Southern Utah is made up of Washington County, Cedar City, Garfield County, Beaver, Kane County, Kanab, Junction, and Kanab. Therefore, if you live in the Southern Utah area and lose your job, keep your head up, you will get back to work faster in the area than any other state in the US.

As Utah pushes towards its goal of 100,000 jobs in 1,000 days, less Utahns will be looking for work and employers will find the qualified workers they are looking for. This also helps lower the unemployment insurance taxes that employers have to pay. It has also been reported by the Utah Department of Workforce Services that it will pay out the smallest amount of unemployment benefits since November 2008.

The US Department of Labor has even recognized the Utah Department of Workforce Services for their management and innovative strategies of the unemployment program. Connecting claimants with jobs has been their top priority. The short duration rate for unemployment in Utah has also helped over 85,000 businesses save on unemployment insurance premiums this year.

Erika- I think that has to do a lot with people in Utah having a good strong work ethic for the most part. A large majority of residents of Utah do not believe in lieing so they don't do so many things like here to keep getting their unemployment checks. I have had people ask me if they could just apply for a job with us just to show the unemployment office that they tried when in reality they have no intention of getting a job until their unemployment insurance runs out. I lived in Utah, Salt Lake for one year, Provo for one year and Orem for 2 or 3 years. Katerina

Utah is such a beautiful state, I've enjoyed many trips with Family. Many things can be learned from this state. A sense of community is an important thing to have, Utah is a Great American Story.

That means they have a good work ethic and would rather get a job than be paid to sit at home. Wonderful news for your state and citizens.

I grew up in Utah and have long considered it's economy, cost of living etc. to be healthier than so many states, so this is good news to add to my impression.

Erika: It seems to me that people from Utah do have a great work ethic and that is why they go back to work faster than others.

Utah is a very nice state, but what industries are most active there?   One of the problems in some parts of the country is that some of the industries that made the economy what it was have IMPLODED.

Utah!  I was in Salt Lake City-Provo twice last year; my brother is in Provo this week.  The number of Tech Industries that are setting up there is incredible - Microsoft, Oracle, etc.   It is so refreshing to see the economic "boom" going on in Utah.

John, this is fantastic news for Utah, thanks for stopping by!

Katerina, I agree with you, most people here in Utah have a strong work eithic.  Thanks for you comments.

Ginny, this is definitely good news for our state.  Utahns are hard workers and try to make their situations better rather than complain.

Keith,  Utah does have a real sense of family values and is a wonderful place to live too!

Mike, thanks for your comments.

Than, I think you're correct.  Most Utahns want to work and be productive, our state is known for being industrious!

Gretchen-Glad that your impression continues to improve of Utah!  It is a wonderful place to live and work.

Evelyn-Working is very important to most Utahns and we try to adapt to situations.  I think that's why we are quicker to go back to work than some other states.

Ruthmarie, here in St George and southern Utah we have several big employers.  The public school system, including colleges, Walmart Distribution Center, Blue Bunny ice cream, Viracon glass manufacturing and IHC health care are some of the majoy employers.

Fred-Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad youo mentioned the tech industries moving here too.
