Castro's New Fork Cafe big taste with a big heart for San Francisco
The first time I went to Fork Cafe for dinner I took a couple of pictures thinking I should share my experience with my friends and neighbors about this place. The outside of the building had caught my eye with its stunning mural that covers the entire building 3 stories high, featuring the words "Together we can make a better world" in gold letters.
The location is right by the historic movie palace Castro Theatre, and previously was the restaurant Fuzio which closed about a year ago. I had no idea at the time that I was about to become their number one fan.
When you first walk into the warm, open, inviting, completely renovated space you’ll notice right away the enclosed patio area which is fantastic for people watching with an up beat social atmosphere. Within seconds of arriving I get warm welcoming smiles and eye contact from the hostess, someone working behind the counter and a woman who I would later find out was the manager. I really appreciate great service so I’m already in a good mood and happy I chose the place and I haven’t even sat down yet.
We end up sitting in the patio area with a great table while we wait for our dinner. Within just a few moments the manager comes over and checks in on us, she is delightful. When she walks away I make a comment about how great she was and the table next to us turns and say’s “I come here just to see her, she is fantastic”
I ordered the coo coo chicken salad, loved it and it comes wrapped in lettuce cups perfect for people who are watching their carbs. My friend ordered one of their Neiman Ranch burgers which was huge and he said it was delicious. Living up to Fork Cafe's big taste and as for their big heart for San Francisco?
The owner Sam, who owns the building as well, generously donates all of the revenue from Monday’s and Wednesday’s to different local community charity's each week. Now that is something special.
Fork Cafe is a welcomed new edition to the Castro!
