Drama Queens & Kings & Crazy Makers - Mel PetersonSave the Drama for Yo' Mama!  I've never been a fan of drama kings and queens or crazy makers, but I've known several.  You probably know the type too... they take center stage while having a grandiose sense of self.  They love an audience (they wouldn't exist without one) and they're especially good at making epic and overly dramatic performances out of minor molehills.  They pay attention to everyone's business except their own, and they're really great at pointing fingers and ascribing blame, but never to themselves.

Urban Dictionary's definition of Drama Queen is hilarious...

'An annoying b-tch who always feels like every insignificant problem in her day is a disaster of Hurricane Katrina proportions. Anyone who so much as gives her the time of day is in for an endless session of hearing why her boyfriend (husband) is such an a-hole, or how she's fat because she can't wear size 0 jeans along with an all day crying marathon...

If you value your sanity, avoid these psychic vampires like the clap or you'll never have a minute's peace.'

I've observed these types from the sidelines, occasionally offering benevolent advice while lending an empathetic ear.  Then I learned my lesson... they're not interested in anything you have to say, nor do they want to grow from their experiences... they have an insatiable appetite for crazy making drama and you best stay out of their way.

Drama Queens & Kings & Crazy Makers spend their days trying to convince you that their dysfunctional childhood is the reason for their behavior... and that should explain everything!  Right?  I've personally witnessed crazy people throwing butcher knives at each other when I was 10 yrs old, but that didn't make me want to grow up aspiring to be a butcher knife juggler ;)))

You can subscribe to drama or you can run from it (and there are some healthy benefits to running)!

Mel  - I've met a few. "I'm not too good at empathy. Would sarcasm do instead?"

There comes a time in one's life where they have to own up to THEIR life and not blame what's happened, etc.  There have been far too many success stories.

I love a witty post like yours, we all read it and think of a couple (or so) people we know. Too bad if one is related to one, can't run from that too easily, will have to by ear plugs and consume more drinks with umbrellas in them in order to stay sane if the drama queens/kings can't be avoided ;)!

Hi Mel, it's great to see you around! Loved the graphic! Yep, I've run into my share of drama queens and kings and they can suck all energy and happiness out of you ... scary thing is, they start real young. I had to advise my daughter to sit as far away as possible from them on the school bus, she's only about to start 2nd grade.

Missy Mel~I called these women Drama Queens, and they would come and suck you dry of all the positive energy you could give them. Then when yet another drama would ensue that they were swirled in, they would come to you to verbally vomit all over yo'self til you pumped them up yet again. I always felt drained and realized (sometimes far into the "friendship") that they didn't really WANT TO CHANGE. They lived off this depession, up-and-down lifestyle and CHAOS. They would just come for their dose of happiness and then stumble back into their private madness. I have had to cut these women out of my life, and some still haunt me, because I didn't feel good about it. However, it was a matter of survival. For me. I KNOW you understand.

I knew I met one tonight when at a Board deal, all the air just seem to leave the room. I think every deal he has done for the last year must have fell through. LOL

It's good to see you too... Andrea!  Sounds like you've seen your share of blood sucking crazy makers ;)))  It's a little disturbing to hear that it starts so young... your daughter is getting quite the education in the 2nd grade!  She has a very wise Mama!

LOL on that one... Donna!

I know em' well Sweetie... Recently one showed up in male form... Drama isn't just for Queenies :))) Hope things are well for you Gayle!  Lots going on in my world... I'll catch up with you girls soon ;)))

You're always Keeping it Real... Charles!  I dig that about you!

I had one too... Tammy.  Thank God she did us both a favor and moved on... life is so much more pleasant around the water cooler these days without the drama ;)))

Your post really gave me a chuckle, especially with some of your references.  Drama Kings, Queens and Crazy Makers are just Time Vampires serving their own purpose at other's expense.  Feeding off our time and energy works well for them but does nothing for those of us with things that need to get done.  Thanks for a good reminder of what to avoid.

Mel-Love the post. Always naked always real. I know some of these folks. They rank right up there with Prima Donna's in my book or those WOE IS ME people.  I say to them GO AWAY!!!!

I'm glad to hear a woman's perspective on these drama queens Mel and I have seen them more with women than men. That vampire part is true cause they drain you being near them too often and do attempt to make you go crazy. The thing that so surprises me is the other person (YOU) seems to be invisible to them, that they have feelings or problems of their own. No equal sharing with these types. I think it is a behavioral and immaturity issue on their part. The world revolves around them of course.

Mellie-Mel! You're back - and with an oh-so-true post. We all have at least one, if not more of these, in our lives! You're right, the secret is to not engage - then they have to go somewhere else to get their fix! But it is kind of fun watching from the sidelines and thinking, "There but for the grace of God go I!" :-D

Thanks Doug... you're comment got my silly mind thinking about another post... I'll give you credit for the title :)

Sharon... I totally and utterly abhor Prima Donnas and Woe Is Me peeps... there's just not enough time in one's day to wrangle with the devil ;)))

Love, Love, Love... Urban Dictionary!  So entertaining... just like you Craig!

There does appear to be a bit of gender bias in this department... huh Gary!  Perhaps these peeps are missing the 'Playing nice in the sandbox of life' gene ;)))

Mama MEA... How are ya sweetie???  I've been in LA a lot lately... thanks for noticing my MIA status :)))  Love... But for the grace of God go I!!!

Dr. Suess is BACK!!!  LOL... Brian!

Good post and love the definition. These people drain energy from all they are around and never bring a solution just a criticism.

Mel,

You know what I do with drama and trauma in my life?  I divorce it out of my life.  Thank you Lord for the offer of free will.
