This is interesting since Fb uses Bing as their search engine if you look for a business that is NOT registered with Fb....it searches Bing and finds it.....being found is almost ALL of the battle with getting new business

Via Bryan Robertson, Real estate broker Los Altos & Silicon Valley Luxury Homes (Sereno Group):

I ran an interesting test to see how well my articles showed up in Bing and Yahoo compared to Google.  Everyone is so busy thinking about how they rank in Google, the often forget to look at the other search engines.  Bing, from Microsoft, is certainly worth checking.  Call me a die-hard but I still like Yahoo. My test involved an article about the 33rd Annual Los Altos Art & Wine Festival - the largest such event in the Bay Area.

Google Ranking

When I search for either the original Activerain article, I rank on Page 2 in 4th position.  This is not exactly going to be the place to drive lots of traffic.  I rank behind the hosting organization by a long shot and behind a fellow blogger in the area.  Why is that?  My guess at this point is backlinks - I've only got a couple.  Plus, not enough embedding in my own domain.

Bing Ranking

On Bing I'm on Page 1 in 2nd postion.  Excellent!  I'm above all news articles, the local paper, Patch, and even KTVU (TV!).  This is proof that whatever works to optimize on one search engine doesn't necessarily mean much on the next search engine.

Yahoo Ranking

On Yahoo, I'm on Page 1 in 2nd position just like on Bing.  That's no surprise because...Yahoo is powered by Bing so it's a 2 for 1 deal.

Do I care about other search engines?  Yes and no.  Let's face it, Google is the "go to" engine for most people.  I even tried "Ask.com" which is often installed as a task bar search in people's browers.  On that, I was on page 2 position 7 - terrible!

My conclusion:  While Google is important, I think Bing (and Yahoo) are as well.  I'll make a habit of checking all of them from time to time to see how well I rank everywhere.  It's important to get a "big picture" view of where people can find you.

I like the idea of checking other search engines, it doesn't hurt to see where we stand on many of the search engines Wallace.

Hi Wallace.  Sigh.  Bing and Yahoo too?  Overwhelming at times.

I'm with Webster on this. Yes, it is good strategy to be aware of all the various platforms etc. but, it does get a bit overwhelming at times.

Excellent point, Wallace.  I didn't know FB uses Bing so being ranked well on Bing is a big help all the way around.
