It was a beautiful day to go sledding, and we weren't the only Southern Oregon residents to think so!  We headed off to our favorite sledding hill at Table Mountain Winter Play Area just across from Hyatt Lake. This is one of our favorite family time day trips for many reasons. Only 20 miles from Ashland, Oregon, off Hwy 66 to Dead Indian Memorial Road to the turnoff to Howard Prairie/Hyatt Lake, its location cannot be beat.

The roads are well maintained, although sometimes a little icy with the gorgeous pines in this forest shading the roads. Once you turn off to go up to the snow park, you will traverse .7 miles on top of the packed snow. We attempted it once in our Honda Civic, but even with chains on, could not make the grade once we turned on to the entrance road, so would recommend you take an All-wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicle.

After the fun, we headed over to the restaurant at the Mountain Resort at Hyatt Lake. Whether it is for our traditional post-sledding hot cocoa or for a nice hot lunch, we've always enjoyed the friendly, good service and great food at this restaurant so close to Table Mountain Winter Play Area. This resort also offers Camping Cabins for rent year round from $129-169 per night depending on the size and amenities, and winter Sno-Cat rides. Right next to the many snowmobile, Nordic ski, snowshoe trails here along the Pacific Crest Trail, it has a great location for winter sports enthusiasts.

See you out there!

Bill - Does it show? :-> Moving to Southern Oregon has been one of the best decisions we've made. When we used to live in Santa Clarita, CA, we'd drive 1 1/2+ hours to get the kids to the snow - if there was any. Now, we're on the hill and having fun in 45 minutes, allowing for road conditions. On the lake in 1/2 hour in the summertime.

That is so cool! We've had I think 2 days of cold weather so far in Daytona. It froze one night last week and it was chilly today. I'm still running my air conditioning. It's just bizarre to see such a drastic climate change. Those photos are gorgeous!

Lisa - I read a post about Florida AR members who didn't even have heat in their home, cold weather was so uncommon.

Kathleen - I'd guess Minnesota gets REALLY good snow crops. Too bad some of the run off can't be piped over to Georgia and other states when they experience draught. So many gorgeous lakes you have!

Karen, I wouldn't go that far. I actually have the heat on today. Our weather is so weird. AC yesterday, heat today. BTW, I wrote a post about the Things to Do/Places to Visit group and included a mention and a link to this post =)

Karen,

Thanks for sharing.  Someone was just telling me last night that there are some great sledding hills up by Hyatt Lake, I'll have to get up there and check them out, hmm... no school on Friday for the kids, might be a good time.

Jared - You are welcome. If you take your kids on Friday, I hope you get the same beautiful weather we had when we went.
