What are the Odds? You might be surprised ...

Your son was left with a story to tell.  We as realtors do have to be prepared for "stray balls flying towards our heads!"

I almost I know only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades found myself in that same position with a softball. And what did I do - I froze and called upon the only expert I know who could help at that moment. Hi Gene, how is this not a featured post? Wonderful story, although I'm sorry to hear your son had to beat those odds. As a military spouse we live by "prepare for the worst and hope for the best" and I carry that over to my business. Stuff happens - especially when you least expect it. And when it does happen, panic will accomplish nothing - assess the problem and work on a solution.

This is great Gene! Since having something go wrong or be unexpected is almost the norm these days, improving the odds of success by working with experienced pros like you is more important than ever.

Gene, unfortunately, I think the odds of something going haywire with a mortgage ro home purchase transaction are a lot greater than getting whacked in the head by a golf ball!  I'm so glad your son is alright.

My compliment on your post. I start in the mortgage business in the 70's so I know what you are talking about. The analogy is sure understandable, but the odds of stuff going wrong with a mortgage today is much, much greater. Fortunately when we explain that the possibilities of what can go wrong and they knowing that we will work through all issues, makes the process easier for the client to handle.

Cute story and great point.  Stuff does happen in life, even when the odds are against it.  I'm dealing with a slew of situations that the odds were totally against.  Two A/C units out, my washing machine crapped out, my landscape lights are out and so is the surge protector to my very important office equipment.  New equipment wasn't in the budget, but we're managing to fix it all.  

Gene: Your post should be required reading for ALL of us, we should copy and read it every day. Anything and everything can happen during a transaction. We just need to take stock of the problem devise a way to over come the problem and move on. No hysteria, no drama.

I really hope your son will be OK and that there are no complications from this "long shot".  We all have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.  Thanks for the post.

Hi Gene ~ I'm glad that John recovered from this "accident" and kept his noggin intact.  My mother was also hit by a fast-moving ball, on the Pebble Beach golf course.  She took it in stride and kept a more vigilant watch after that!

We all have to be prepared for the unexpected ... including during a real estate transaction, where anything can go upside down in a heartbeat!

My dad a lifelong participant in IL golf courses, has many a story about people getting bonked on the head. You are right - what are the chances?  You have to do the best you can & prepare as best you can for a successful outcome. Then be flexible enough to get hit on the head a couple of times!
