Sunday Selling Tips - Wallpaper, yes or no?

When you are selling your home there are some challenges you might have to face.  Perhaps your home is in need of some repair.  Maybe you carpet is worn or dated and needs to be replaced.

One of the biggest challenges is depersonalizing your home.  What do I mean?  Do you have a collection of Disney items?  Do you have photos of your family on the wall going up the stairs?  Is there a cow decorating theme in your kitchen?  All of these things have something in common.  They are YOUR preference and may NOT be the preference of your potential buyer.

Julia Maher, a Home Staging professional in Fairfield, Connecticut shares an example of wallpaper that is "taste-specific".  (I like her choice of words!)  Not everyone wants playboy bunnies in their bathroom.  This is a good case for wallpaper removal.

If There Was Ever A Case For Wallpaper Removal, This Is It!  Post Yours!

Playboy

Playboy?  Really?

While wallpaper has been making a fashionable comeback, most Listing Agents and Home Stagers will still recommend removing it once the home goes on the market.

Why?

Wallpaper is very taste-specific.  Plus, most potential buyers perceive removal as a difficult and/or expensive process.  Then they have to paint - more time and money.  These perceived expenses will come off their offer - IF they make one!

Post some photos of wallpaper you've seen that must go!

Debbie~ I had a sunflower motif in my kitchen in my old house AND we had blue countertops!  We had a LOT of negative feedback about the blue countertops.  Finally we found a buyer who didn't mind!
