Today is Milet's 22nd birthday and I am writing this post as a tribute to her because today is her Birthday! A post that she can also keep. She is one of our assistants and one of her duties is to make a back up copy of our blog posts once a week. So I am going to surprise her and not tell her I am doing this post. Then when she goes to back up my blog she will pleasantly surprised!
Happy Birthday Milet!
Milet was my first daughter born after 3 boys. I was sure that I would have a girl first, yet boy after boy, the girl did not come! Of course, now in hindsight, I know that boys are way easier to raise than girls. But this was then! I had her name picked out since I was a young girl. Milet is not a name. It is a word in Latvian and it means, 'to love'. I had dreams of braiding long beautiful hair, dressing my daughter in pink and such. Oh! What a rude awakening I had when Milet refused to let me fix up her hair!
During my pregnancy with Milet the ultrasounds were not sophisticated yet to tell me whether I was having a boy or a girl and I was old fashioned and did not want to know what their best guess was. I wanted that moment of hearing, "It's A Girl!" She was a very easy birth except for the fact that I started bleeding like crazy while I was in labor with her. The same thing had happened with my first son and to this day no one knows why. Here is Milet with her sister Tirzah when they were very young. These photos are old and scanned so the quality has been compromised. Sorry about that!
Milet gave me the scare of my life when she woke up with a fever of 104 degrees at only 4 weeks old! Rushing her to the hospital I was praying to God to save her. They thought she might have spinal meningitis and therefore had to remove fluid from her spinal chord which in and of itself was a risky procedure. I remember signing the warning of side effects that a miss in hitting the right spot with the needle could cause! Scary stuff! Well, it ended up after 5 days in the hospital that she had a urinary track infection. The results alone for that test would take about 72 hours. Back in those days they did not make it comfortable for moms to stay in the hospital. I slept in a chair and nursed her with her arms filled with needles and tubes. Our prayers were answered, the medication started working and I was able to bring her back home.
Milet was a trooper with 3 brothers. Her sister came about 3 years later. Milet was a black belt top Champion in Tae Kwon Do ranking #4 in the ATA World Championships at the age of 6.
She also became Little Miss America. This landed her a manager who approached us and represented all the kids in LA and Vancouver BC for modeling, acting and commercials. This was such a fun time for her. She was just the ham for the camera and audiences. Milet loved performing. She went on to study Ballet and achieved the high honors from the Royal British Ballet testing panel.
Now she is my friend and mother of my first granddaughter. Milet lives with us right now and I get to spend time with her and the baby.
Happy Birthday Milet and we wish you many, many more! We love you Milet!
