The truth is there are only so many hours in the day.  Social networking has created a new burden opportunity to network and reach out, but it has also added a level of obligation to stay 'relevant.'

With Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, text messaging voice mail and, of course, email, our time is is spoken for before we even log on to the computer or pick up our smart phone.

So with that in mind, I have decided it is time to let one go...Ciao, Google +; it is time for us to break-up.

Public break-ups are everywhere (Tom and Katie?), and this one is no different. If you are in one of my Google + Circles, I just wanted to let you know, I won't be 'circling' anymore.

One of the things many of us love about Google is its seemless integration, but frankly, when it comes to my social networking I don't like the integration. What control I can maintain, while over-sharing, is important to me. If I log in to Google to take advantage of my news preferences, it is closely tied to Google +. I don't want to share my reading habits with my social network. Call me, private (hardly), but there is really no reason for this level of sharing.

And honestly, I have just not seen the kind of participation in Google + that I experience in my other networks.

So goodbye, Google +.  I have to say, I won't miss you. Almost no one came out to play.

You might reconsider. G+ has a huge effect on search results, more so every day. And it is soooo easy to be active - just a click here and there. If you comment occasionally, you will get more people circling you. Google considers your social activity, when deciding if your contributions online are relevant. There isn't really any online privacy anymore.

Virginia, That is a really good point about the social ranking. I just don't find that anyone I know is using it, so it is just one more thing to do. I guess I should think about what you said...

Holly, that is the beauty of it - no one you know has to be using it.  When you use it, you can be affecting the search results of strangers and their circles, extended circles, etc.

Hello Holly~ I never got "connected" via Google+ and I now I don't think that I will.  I hope Google won't be too hurt!  :-)

Time is a commodity for me so I have to pick and choose as well and have stopped jumping on every band wagon.
