Moonsoon Damage at Gladden Farms, Marana near Tucson, AZ

Moonsoon Damage at Gladden Farms, Marana, AZ

Had one of those HOWING rain storms yesterday afternoon, complete with hail and high winds.  It seems the storm hit and the power went out, simultaneously.

Found out later that the power lines were down across Tangerine Farms Road.  Still are, as of 10:30 the next day.

After about an hour of candle-lit atmosphere in our rapidly heating home, we set off for nearby Tower Theatres and a big bucket of popcorn for dinner.

Monsoon season is here in Tucson - how do you cope with the power failures, road closings, and downed trees?  Have your own story to share?

Summer brings with it it's own drama here in the SW Desert - the rest of the year tends to be "another sunny day".

I like it - and relocated 12 years ago from the midwest.

The damage mother nature can cause. Thanks for sharing and best wishes on the cleanup I hope it isn't as bad as it looks.

Ack, didn't know about the storm! Better call my dad and see if he has power - thanks, Cara!

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

Hi Caron - No, those are special water run-off areas.  I only saw a couple of damaged trees this storm, thank goodness!

Hi Mary Elizabeth - the storms are funny here - one neighborhood gets drenched and the other is totally passed over.

How long does it take pools of that size to drain or evaporate?

Several days or maybe months dry as a bone, and then water, water everywhere. When we get a good rain like that in our little desert, the plants really perk up with lots of color. Sort of like a jolt of something good. Hope it's the same there.

Kevin - usually less than 24 hours!

Wayne - yep, all the ocotillo leaf out immediately and everything starts blooming - love it!
