Your email subject lines aren’t interesting enough to make them want to read your email.  If you’re writing overly general or bland generic subject line, this can be the death knell for your email campaigns as the subject line is absolutely critical for recipients in deciding whether or not they want to read your email.  I’ve written an article specifically on creating effective subject lines for emails to your prospect list.

You’re not sending your emails at a good day of the week and time.

If you send emails at a bad time, they risk being consistently overlooked.  Don’t send emails between late evening and early morning on any day of the week (especially Sunday evening).  These times are usually when most spam arrives in your inbox, so your email will be buried in this pile of junk, competing for the prospect’s attention, making it easier to be overlooked.  Try sending your emails at a time when people aren’t busy and likely to have a few minutes to read it.  Lunch time on weekdays is usually a good time to catch people’s attention.

Great time tip, That makes sense as well. The subject line does need to be catchy enough to make them open it yet honestly depicate the subject contained within.

Gabrielle - I do believe the subject line has to be enticing.  I can see what you mean by the time of day your send your email.  Thanks for the link to your article.  Great info!

Gabrielle, I agree that time of day and time of the week are critical. Also different products may even have better days and times.

I went to a class with Constant Contact a few months back, and they recemmended Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday over the lunch break. I have been using 10:45 as my time on those three days for several months now and that has been a much better open rate for me. So I think you are correct!

And yes, if the title is boring, no matter what time of day, they won't get opened.
