Life is Good - But are you Retro?

Reblogger Mary Yonkers

Life is good, so why change? Can't things just stay the same indefinitely?

Patricia's post is excellent post, right up my alley so to speak.  I hate to change or update as it means that I have to learn something new.  I have to get out of my comfort zone.

Can you relate?

Well, here we are folks less than half way away from the first of the year. Life is good for some but are you caught up in a Retro World?

TODAY YOU'RE IN; TOMORROW YOU'RE OUT!

Retro means culturally outdated. As they say in fashion, today you are in; tomorrow you are out!

Now is a good time to take inventory of electronic media. iPads sure are cool and seems to be a wave of the future. With an iPad, there’s always something new to learn. The longer you wait to join the iPad world, the further away you’ll be from everybody else who is or who has gotten acclimated.

STOP, DROP & SHOP

As we inch closer to 2013, now is a great time to shop for bargains, price and compare. Sign up for classes, check your eye-glasses, and look at your clothes. Do you need a hair cut or a new look? What new business tools will help you to advance? If you’ve been in business for 10, 15, 20 years or more, the First Time Home Buyer generation is miles ahead of you when it comes to technology.  In business, as in fashion, today you’re in; tomorrow you’re out!

IF IT ISN'T BROKEN, WHY FIX IT?

Why do some people remain retro – because it’s comfortable and who wants to spend more money on replacing the tools that work. They say, “If it isn’t broken, why fix it?” But is that true?  Being outdated has a price to pay – time to get caught up to the rest of the world.

PAST OR PRESENT?

I like retro art – but is it functional? I own some nice Art Deco but it’s just a thing from the past that sits on my window sill. I could make it a center piece- but the truth is it’s not even a conversation piece!  Even the color is out!

As a Realtor® I go into many different types of homes. My eyes are now trained to distinguish between good art, color, style. The little voice inside me says, "What were those people thinking?" On the flip side, my clients have eyes too. When they find something they like, or if they have a question, they ask. If I don’t have an answer, they are searching for answers right before my eyes!

THE LAST SUPPER

I may have come from the information age, but this new generation is living proof that new technology makes you smarter and faster. In today’s business world, it’s no longer acceptable to say, “I don’t know, let me get back to you.” In business, that IS the kiss of death. I’ve had clients who I recently tried that line on, we had a good rapport, and they took me out to dinner. I call that my Last Supper because I never heard from them again.

The truth is, we all want to hang on to parts of the past, nobody wants to spend money if they don’t have to, and why should we spend money on stuff we don’t need?

The problem with this type of thinking is that eventually, our past catches up to us and we are forced to make changes – some for the better; some for the worse.

EXPERIENCE IS YOUR TEACHER; TECHNOLOGY IS YOUR FUTURE!!!

I’ve recently joined the iPad world. Is it challenging? Yes. Is it fun? You bet! Are there days when it’s stressful because I don’t know how to do something? Of course! But trying something new keeps me current. Moving into the iPad world makes me feel like I’m taking one step forward. In business, you have to keep moving forward. Nobody wants to be left behind. I have learned that Experience & Advanced Technology keeps me forever young. Being comfortable is not always good but life is good when you the next step that’s right in front of you – iPad world, here I come!

Hi Mary, thanks for the re-blog of this. I'll head over and comment on Patricias blog as well. This is a great topic. Retro is cool, but I-Pads and smart phones are MUCH lighter than those cook retro real estate blue books I've heard about.

Great re-blog Mary.  Debbie and I went to the Mac store today and checked out making our office totally Mac.  We're half way there but still need 2 Mac desktops and 1 tablet.  Cha -Ching!!!  We are welcoming donations... LOL... When one owns the business it's always something.

Hi Mary,  I just bought a new camera a month or so ago.  Thinking abuot a IPad but still debating whether I need to have one or not.  I do love my droid phone though.

Hi Cindy,  yes, I used to have the lastest version of Blue Book each year.  Now we want the newest version IPhone or Droid.  Thanks for stopping by.

John,  cost is second and sometimes the primary reason we hesitate to update.  Good luck with switch to Mac.  I just upgraded Microsoft Office.  Even that is a challenge.  Good to see you.

Barbara-Jo,  like-wise I enjoy Patricia's posts and yours, too.  Thanks for coming by.

Toni--Thanks for the complement, however, I must admit that sometimes I struggle finding the right words. Good to see you again.

June--Droid, that is my phone.  Wish I understood how to use it more efficiently.  You should be in Erie this weekend for bike rally, Roar on the Shore.

Hi Mary, just like Patricia points out, retro may be appropriate for some things but when it comes to technological advancements that will help you in your business, retro is not where you want to be stuck in.
