Hershey was a great man. We need to celebrate men like this. I was listening on the radio today and someone commented they did not like the term "Giving Back" because it implies something was taken. They just liked the term "Giving."
Really a sweet post. Hershey is a big name in Pennsylvania. Between the park and the town the name is everywhere.
Gene - We sure do. And we need to think about what his story teaches. By sharing generously with those who helped him succeed, he became even more successful and had even more to share.
It just occurred to me - I have heard of a man who thinks along the same lines, although I don't think he's built homes, etc. for his employees. I can't think of his name at the moment, but he owns Melaleuca, down in southern Idaho. He generously rewards employees who have been with him for a number of years, and spends many thousands each year putting on a fireworks display for the community.
On a smaller scale, my son's employer is generous with bonuses, as well. It's probably his way of keeping his top people, but that's OK.
Erv - As it says in the post - he's still giving, even though he passed on many years ago.
Michelle - I think we should all pay attention - and when we see one who behaves in that manner, let them know we admire them. I doubt we'll find any who are THAT generous, but you never know.
I'll have to say that I've eaten more than my share of his product over the years. We need more entrepenuers like him that's for sure.
Good morning Marte. Gotta love Jay's slant on life. He always adds just enough humor to keep his very informative posts light. I have been subscribed to Jay since day one in the rain for me.
Jeanne and Ralph - Just think, since chocolate is comfort food, how many millions of people he has comforted.
David - That's right - Active Rainers are definitely "One percenters." All real entrepreneurs are.
Randy - He does have a wonderful talent for injecting humor into serious subjects. Now I'm subscribed to him both in the Rain and off.
Thats great! THose that work hard should be rewarded to do with what they have whatever they want. Great points in Jay's blog
Tammy - My sentiments exactly!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this-otherwise I doubt I ever would have read it. GREAT!
Jean - Then I'm doubly glad I decided to share!
