OT - Optimized Text: What is it and How Do you get It?
by John Occhi, Hemet REALTOR®
Hemet CA Real Estate

I just read a great post in a newsletter on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on the "Search Engine Guide" newsletter. The article is titled, "Guide for Writing Optimized Pages" by Stoney deGeyter. It turns out that this is not just an article that Stoney wrote, but part of his company's internal operations/job manual.

I am no guru when it comes to SEO, but I have been reading this newsletter since about last June, when I got my template Point2 Agent website. Reading this information is one reason that I was able to climb to the first page in Google for such sought after terms as Hemet Real Estate and Hemet Realtor, for my website, http://www.johnocchi.com/.

There are lots of neat white hat tricks and techniques for doing the job right. I strongly recommend it as a resource for every one interested in SEO - regardless of you skill level.

After reading the post, I know that this now only works well on websites but ActiveRain and other blog posts as well. My guess is if we all just took an extra 5 or 10 minutes on our blog posts that we could maximize our won SEO results for our Active Rain Blogs as well as our websites.

I love his explanation of what optimized text (OT) really is: "first and foremost marketing copy for the website. Each optimized page must be written with the client's products or services in mind. They are not general information pages, but pages designed to provide the visitor with the information they seek which compels them to take the desired action."

I'll take a website full of those. So how do you get them without spending a fortune on a web designer/copywriter? Well, I suggest read the article.

In the article Stoney discusses "CORE TERM" and describes them as the most important terms on a page. His advice is to use the terms as many times as possible, while still maintaining good readable copy.

Then each page or blog post should be supported with up to - but no more than 15 "RELATED PHEASES". These are the additional key phrases that you want to be found by. Phrases do not need to be kept in their sequential order but make sure that you use each related word in your key phrase a number of times through the post.

This is just a sample of what Stoney covers in his company manual, that he is sharing in his newsletter - but it is all good stuff and if you have any interest in SEO or just making your Active Rain blog posts friendlier to the search engines (which you should be) then I strongly suggest you take a look at the article and even consider subscribing to one of his newsletters - just as a disclaimer, yes he will try and sell you some ‘stuff' from time to time, but so what, isn't that what we do. You are under no obligation and I am in no way connected with this site or receive any benefit from it - financial or otherwise.

Now Have a Blessed Day,

John Occhi, Hemet REALTOR

CORRECTION: I received the following comment form the quoted author..."John, thanks so much for the kind words about my article. I'm glad you found it useful! I just wanted to point out that the newsletter you mentioned actually isn't my newsletter. The newsletter you are referring is from Search Engine Guide, which I am one of many contributors. I do have my own newsletter, however, as well as my own blog which can be found at http://www.emarketingperformance.com/. All the Best, Stoney."

I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.

John, I always read new articles. I have told other agents in my office when you update the content on your page ( most are templates ) you are writing to two audiences, The first is the computer software programs, spiders et al that search out your pages for content and judge you and of course human's. Great Post I will look up the information. By the way Point2 Rocks....

John, thanks for the post. This is some great information and I am glad to hear your point2 site is doing well for you. I am just starting to optimize our point2 site as we had started our other ones by hand years ago. Thanks for the links.
