WHY DO THINGS HAVE TO BE SO DARN EXPENSIVE

Whatever happened to the fun part of buying something? I am referring to a time in my growing up years where you could take a penny and go the store and have so many choices on what to spend it on. Let me remind you that there were even things that sold as 2 for a penny. Unbelievable, but true.

THOSE WERE MEANINGFUL TIMES

Now if a penny can do all that and mind you I am a kid, then a nickel can open you up to things that bring joy and wonder. A nickel means you may need a bag to put everything in. If you decided to go with quality instead of quantity, that experience did not disappoint either. I mean baseball cards, the gum and the thought that Mickey Mantle or Duke Schneider card could be hiding in your purchase was joy unspeakable

 WHEN A DIME MEANT SOMETHING

If you had the good fortune to own a dime or come into one, You could now order a coke which was hand made at the time. They took a coke "glass", put syrup in it and you told the guy whether you wanted it sweeter or not. He then adds seltzer. Even after you drank some, he could tweak it on request. Then, add a pretzel stick, cookie or licorice to your order.

COMIC BOOKS

Now if you wanted sheer repetitive enjoyment, you took your dime and bought the latest comic book out and there were many to choose from and all were good. This was the golden age of comics and of course they were at their peak. Good stories, artwork and the advertisements were amazing...10 cents for all that

A DOLLAR...A FORTUNE

I am going to skip to what a dollar could do. It would cause you to enter the local candy store and drool. About 30 things would be pulling on you from small toys to something to eat and everything else too. It is hard to believe that money was being made by the people selling the stuff now that you think about it. But they were making money

PENNIES ADD UP

A guy who ran a store once told me that he used to chase the kids out because they took up too much of his time. But he discovered that a kid who spends a penny a day 5 days a week added up at the end of the year. If they brought friends, well your making good money too. Worth all the time spent

THE DOLLAR TODAY IS CALLED 99 CENTS

Today, the joy now begins at 99 cents. I used the word joy loosely too. I remember when McDonald's hamburgers cost 15 cents and they sold millions of them. What is wrong with that? When they went to a 25 cents mode, it still paid for itself. Fast forward to now and the experience has to be questioned. This is the way on many products out there.

I say roll back pricing, go for quality and be content with a steady flow of customers...whats wrong with that?
