Greatwood (map) is located at the current southern end of the Grand Parkway 99 (Crabb River Road, FM 2759) and the Southwest freeway 59. It has good access to Houston and areas north on 99. Greatwood borders the Brazos River with a levee system. When it was developed the freeway was raised to accomodate flood control. Homes were started in the 1990's and were continued to be built until recently. This is a golf course community with many homes being on the golf course. Values range from $141,000 to $566,000 with an average of $259,000 and 2934 sq.ft. A few homes are are higher priced, mostly in Greatwood Shores.
Schools and Colleges
Public Schools are provided by Lamar Ind. School Dist. with Dickinson and Campbell elementary schools in Greatwood, and Reading Junior High School and George Ranch High School on FM 762 south of Greatwood.
Greatwood homes have really nice Live Oak trees
Private schools are available. St. Laurance Catholic School on Sweetwater in Sugar Land has pre-K through 8th grade. Fort Bend Christian (Baptist) Academy is located on 7th Street in Sugar Land with pre-K through High School. Calvary Episcopal School on FM 762 in Richmond has pre-K through High School. Faith Lutheran School and Preschool, in Sugar Land pre-K through 5 th. Honor Roll School, Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land 2 year old through 8th grade.
WCJC and the University of Houston have a joint campus closeby on west side of Sugar Land in Telfair. A Wharton County Junior College trade school is located in Richmond.
Sports
Sugar Land Little League is available. Greater Sugarland Select Baseball (Nations) is available. FFPS Soccer (Fun Fair Positive Soccer) league is available for children. Select volleyball is available in the Eclipse league. Houston Southwest Heat Volleyball is available in Sugar Land. Slaters sportsplex in Pecan Grove features volleyball and basketball training and competition. Lifetime fitness has a huge complex on SH 6 between 90 and 59. A YMCA is located on FM 762 in Richmond.
Greatwood Golf Club has an 18 hole public golf couse with affordable prices. It has a large clubhouse with restaurant, golf instruction, practice green and leagues. Also Fort bend Country Club, The Houstonian and Shadowhawk courses are not far away.
