Reminds me of years ago when I tried to do the opposite. I thought the pool water was freezing and boiling water might help raise the temperature. The results were similar to yours.
There you go, Jill. Great minds think alike! Good job.
Don't worry Mike, I am pretty sure someone told Einstein was a little crazy too!
Thank you, Kathy. I feel better already. 8-)
Love it! I like my pools cold, too, especially if I'm swimming laps. Love the whole message of trying out great ideas!
Gretchen
Thanks, Gretchen. It is so much more refreshing on these hot summer days. Enjoy those laps. Great exercise.
Ok Mike, if the water in the pool had a temp like my showers, it would feel like a hot tub for sure :-) I like your out-of-the (ice)-box thinking! You gotta do what you gotta do to get some relief from the heat .. I believe my car showed 111 degrees mid-afternoon today. I thought the heat-wave was behind us?
There you go, Andrea. Whew! 111 is really hot. I did feel a bit like that today though.
Everybody in this boat, hang in there. :)
Ice out of the box is an out of the box idea. You're right about some of the simplest ideas paying off in the long run. Maybe this will catch on.
Mike - I can honestly say that you are the first person that I know to attempt to reduce the water temporature of a pool with ice. Genius!
Only you Mike, only you! You gave me a laugh this morning though, thanks.
You bet, Laura.
It sounded nutty to my sons, but they like it now. 8=)
It worked pretty well, Tom. I'm thinking five 5 gallon buckets would do the trick for the entire pool. Now, I need a bigger freezer. 8-)
Glad to add a smile to your day, Roger. Enjoy!
Morning Mike I know a thing or two about math but not enough to figure that one out. I do however know a guy who might and will consult with him and see if he can figure it out.
That would be interesting, James. Thanks.
Hi Mike. 32,000 gallons of water vs 3 gallons of ice. I believe you but the math doesn't work:)
I only measured the end the ice was in, and I stayed there. I wish I had a firm number of gallons on that end. That would sure help the calculations. The ice was in large blocks too, so they lasted a long time before finally disappearing in the water. It was pretty nice.
Good morning Mike. I knew where this was going but enjoyed it anyway. I'm no math whiz but wonder what kind of energy it would take to freeze enough ice to cool the entire pool by 5 degrees.
Kind of makes me want to take a dip. You are smarter than the average bear, Mike.
That's a good question, Sheila. Another math question. 8-)
It was nice, Jason. Come on up and take a dip. 8-)
