Things to do in Maryland: pick your own blueberries

The blueberries are ripe in Maryland - go pick your own at Larriland Farm in Woodbine, MD. We visited last weekend and didn't have to venture far into the field - 2 full bags within 30 minutes and off the first 3 bushes. Blueberry pancakes the next morning, vanilla ice-cream with blueberries in the afternoon ... and there is still a blueberry cheesecake in my near future (it's wonderful to be married to a Chef!)

Blueberries from Larriland - Woodbine, MDThe height of summer is blueberry season in Maryland. There are several places where you can pick your own blueberries - Larriland Farm being one of the most popular in Howard County. While you are there, you can also pick up some raspberries (some of the varieties were already a bit harder to find though), yellow peaches and beets ... more seasonal fruits and veggies coming soon.

In Montgomery County, Blueberry Gardens in Ashton is another great place to pick your own - organically grown - blueberries. You should call ahead
(301-570-5468) as their field is smaller and is only open when enough berries are ripe of course. Blueberry Gardens is on Route 108. If you are coming from the East, its entrance can easily be missed as the sign is only visible from the other direction. If you hit New Hampshire Ave, you've gone too far!

Blueberries are ripe in Maryland - go pick your own and enjoy some delicious pancakes, cheesecakes, muffins, bread, ice-cream ... It all tastes best with freshly picked fruits, even if you don't happen to be married to a chef ;-)

Sounds like a great way to spend a little time with the family and then have a wodnerful treat when you get home.

Can't wait to get home to Oregon next week to pick our own there. I want to make jam! Not many here in southern Utah! Great localism post.

Hi Cindy, we usually go a few times throughout the year - berries in the summer, apples and pumpkins in the fall, and a X-Mas tree in Dember - we also usually return with way more than we had planned! It's a great way to spend some family time.

Hi Gretchen, now jam is something we haven't tried yet. I may have to give hubby a little nudge ;-) Have fun berry picking!
