THE ELECTRONIC KEY BOX ~ A TUTORIAL
When I arrive at a listing appointment, one of the items that I take with me is one of our electronic key boxes. Many people know what they are but are not really sure how they work and why we use them. This is a quick little tutorial on these great little gadgets.
The most common type of lockbox that is used in The Woodlands and surrounding area is the GE Supra Box. These are purchased from our local real estate board and require use only by licensed real estate agents. In order to even purchase one, your licensing and MLS credentials are verified along with the presentation of a valid ID.
For homeowners, these are a very secure method for them while they have their home on the market. The electronic eye reads the agent's information and either allows or denies entry into the home. The box is very heavy and is securely fastened to the door handle, gate or other area where it cannot be removed.
The computer chip records each and every access into the home. I can pull up on my computer who the last agent was, the time of their entry, and more. This is a very important point for homeowners. If there is ever a question about who was in your home on a particular day, it can be verified by having one of these electronic boxes.
Feeling safe and secure is important especially when you have your home on the market. Another tidbit that I share with my Seller's is to never allow an agent (person) who walks up to your door to come on in. Have them either call your listing agent or the showing service to insure they are really who they say they are. This way we have a record. They also need to use their Supra Key on the key box in order to register the showing within the box.
