It is true that many Realtors have left the business.  The 80/20 rule suggests that 20 percent of the Realtors do 80 percent of the work. With declining renewals in most markets this can be a benefit.  The ones actively working, have refined their communication skills.  They are keeping in touch with their customers via telephone, email and face to face, even when there is nothing new to report.  They are providing stastistics on recent market sales, and inventory levels, and keep the sellers abreast of market conditions after the contract has been signed. The signing of an agreement is when the relationship begins.

Remembering We Are ALL Consumers

Treating others with superior service is paramount to how we want to be treated as consumers of other services. We do not like to be kept waiting.  We grow impatient when all we seem to get is voicemail and we want to speak with a "real person".  We want to feel like a VIP even we are not.  We want to feel that we are special in some manner.  We want to feel that our professional will resolve issues not become the issue.

Allison

You are correct. It allows a chance to remove some of the weeds in our business

Allison.

Your last sentence said a lot.  It's sometimes hard for the average agent to understand that the average buyer's or seller's interest in our business is what can we do for them NOW.

A lot of what we read is "inside" stuff and the consumer isn't deeply involved.

Hi Allison..I am seeing a bit more curiosity from the sidelines, I believe this will increase. I was at a seminar this weekend, the speaker was promoting doom and gloom and that this market would continue to slide for the next 4-6 years and then flatten out. He had charts and graphs too, but did not take into account the built up demand for our marketplace.

It appears to me that thousands of people were turned down for a loan in the last year, and have been staying home counting the ways to save cash to be ready to buy with money down. This is a true statistic, and the ones who court these buyers will have some very prepared customers. Also, anything that they were looking at 6 months ago has a huge chance of being still available, for less money. With Bank of AMerica going to snatch up Countywide, and National City and other wholesale lenders shutting down, I believe we will see people going directly to banks with ten percent down, wanting to purchase the deeply discounted homes. ANd the banks will make it happen..

So, if you can hold you breath a bit longer, I think we will see the existing homes selling to buyers on all types of creative financing deals, and the banks will soon start promoting thier bloated inventories just like the new home builders do.. Watch and see, the free for all is coming

You are very astute!  Too often the issue is with the professional.  Thank you for your comment.

TOM- I see the receeding of Realtors as a very good thing. Some of us are working hard and getting the job done-albeit a little more slowly than in past years. Consistency will get results.

Mike- As with any change in market condition there will be the doom and gloom  forecasts HOWEVER, attitude effects performance.  If we know, what our buyers can afford and show them what they want to see, we can achieve sales. There may be a few more obstacles to the closing table but it can be done!  Thank you for the comment!

Cyndee how nice to hear from you.  I truly believe that attitude makes the difference.  LAst year my sales were up 30%. Sort of like the little engine that could.  Selecting the "right" houses, pricing them right and working with solid buyers made all the difference for my business. I began this year with a Bang as well and hope the trend will continue- Good luck to you and sell well!

Yep, Allison, absolutely. It appears that the real estate profession cannot escape the 80/20 rule. Indeed, I have also pondered this thought, I think after reading your post, I have come to your conclusion as this is also my observation,. Lance

More sage advice!  Eveyone "does" want to feel important or like they are the VP.  Love the photo too!  You always attach the best pictures to go along with your thoughts!
