Attention New Jersey Voters, Political Rant Coming Right At You!!

New Jersey on Sunday became the second state to enter a compact that would eliminate the Electoral College's power to choose a president if enough states endorse the idea.

Governor Jon Corzine has signed legislation that approves delivering the state's 15 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. The Assembly approved the bill last month and the Senate followed suit earlier this month.

What does this mean for New Jersey's presidential vote?  It means that it really does not matter who wins the state wide vote, if the national vote winner is from the other party, the presidential candidate who lost New Jersey's vote wins New Jerseys vote.

Have you every heard of such a socialist, anti democratic, anti voting idea??  Perhaps Governor Jon Corzine and the New Jersey Legislators need to here from the New Jersey voters.  Perhaps we need to throw the bums out and start over with a new Governor and Legislature here in New Jersey.

Short sighted, and obviously from someone that has no idea WHY the framers of the Constitution chose indirect election.  But then, I wonder what would happen if the Republican won the popular vote, but lost NJ?  Think the legislature would see the folly of their action?

I suppose without the electoral college we might have a president elected who actually lost the popular vote and then have to deal with the fact that although elected constitutionally, the majority of voting Americans do/did not support him/her.  And that president could even get us into a war!  Gee... that would be awful!

Actually Steve, what you just described can happen with the electoral collage, and did happen in 2000 when George Bush was elected President with fewer votes nation wide than Al Gore.  Wonder what the world would be like if there had not been some miss deeds going on in Florida, and the US Supreme Court had not been Dominated by Republicans and given things a fair hearing.

Sorry Guys but i think the electoral college should be dissolved. The presidency is a national position and should be elected by the national popular vote.

Bob Ingle from gannett just released a new book about New Jersey corruption called, among all the potential titles, The Soprano State. The current climate of sleaze is the worst I've seen in 15 years of residency here. thanks for keeping us informed, James.
