The most important words in this post to me is..."Stop and smell the roses." Well said, now get that picnic basket out and put it to use. Congrats on the feature.
I occasionally go back an update old posts. Especially to boost SEO. Old posts often get ranked better. Also good like you said to see your mindset a year or 2 ago.
Thom, I remember when you wrote that post. I've had a lot of reasons to try to slow down and smell the roses.
I usually read my own posts several times knowing my issues with spelling. LOL!!
Hi Thom - Isn't it like a Back to the Future moment when you get a comment on a very old post? I get those occasionally and when I read the post sometimes I can't even remember posting it, yet it is apparently still drawing readers.
Thom, Great post and very true. I read things I have written later and think boy that was not very good.
I've been spending a few minutes cleaning up my tags every day, and so far I'm not TOO embarassed about anything I said!
Reading is fundamental! Yeah thats the ticket... ;)
Thanks Thom, I am sure there are a lot of great ideas that deserve a second look in all of our archives.
Thom I don't have very many blog posts, but I have read some of the comments more than once, because some were encouraging, some were funny and some were informative.
Today brought me a comment on a year-old post too. It was about the banks encouraging buyers and their agents to break the law by paying money under the table. The person who wrote was a consumer whose agent was encouraging him to go along with it.
So, although that post was a year old, it appears that mortgage fraud originating from banks has not come to an end.
Meanwhile... I agree. It's fun to back to some of those old "personal" type posts and see what was going on at the time.
Hi Thom, we proof read ours and occasioanly go back and see what we had written before for new ideas.
Thom:
I have gone back to read some of my first posts. I blush when I read them because they are so amateurish and because of the typos I find. At least I am in the process of correcting them. Since I have been blogging since Feb 2011 it is not as much work as you might think to read, correct and classify them. A little at a time.
Phil Leng: Very funny.
Seems that everything moves to fast for us to notice until we finally do. Today I realized that I'm not spending quality time with people that truly care about me - that's dumb on my part so I'll be fixing that in the future.
Thom, I have been meaning to go back and read all my posts to get them organized in some type of usable file folder. Like you, I go back when someone has made a comment on a post that was written quite awhile back.
Thom, I read them before I post them and again if I want to update them. Maybe I should take your advice and ready them more often. I could also spend a month of Sundays cleaning up those tags.
Tanja: It's still in the basement and you'll get there one day!
Kathy: Yep, I've got some serious "freshmen" posts!
Teri: Thanks hon!
Jared: But you know you've improved, right?
Mark: Had it for years and I've never used it yet!
Rob: Not yet. Now it's a bit to hot...maybe come the fall.
Michelle: Long live the Internet!
Tammy: Tag Work....UGH!
Richie: How True!
John: We've come a long way baby!
Shannon: I don't go back often. They just happened because of that stray comment.
Cal: We have grown haven't we?
Mary: I soooooo need to start a journal again. When I did keep one, going back and reading past entries brought all the memories back to life.
Bill: I've never been to the Top of Stone Mountain here in Atlanta! See? We have things to do!
Borino: Indeed we have!
Walter: It is a great way to see how you have improved and how much better your writing is now! I know mine has!
Charita: Great thoughts!
Chris and Dick: OH NO!!! NEVER clean out stats in old posts! Just do a new post and link in that post to the old ones. Your readers can see past stats and see how the market has improved...I hope!
Sometimes reading my own post make me crinch. But there are some old ones I really love.
At any age, it is good to realize that this day should be lived as if there were no more. I have almost been killed in a car accident and it sure changes your attitude to complacency.
