Relocating to Hawaii?  Military Relocations & PCS'ing to Hawaii? It's not as easy moving to an island out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The articles I have written will give you a better idea of the neighorhoods, culture and housing situation and following are a couple of other articles that you may find useful as well.

  • The Art of Hawaii Relocations
  • *Across the Ocean to Paradise: Military Relocations Hawaii*
  • In Waipio Gentry, Oahu, Hawaii we have a population of a little over 11,000 residents. Though I work in Mililani I now reside in Waipio Gentry which is immediately south of Mililani and immediately east of Waikele.

Besides all the Waipio Gentry residential homes & condos and the industrial/commercial areas we also have a huge Costco Store, Car sales and several strip malls and a shopping center to serve our community.

Across Kamehameha Highway is the Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park which was renamed last August 2007 for the late civil rights councilwoman Patsy Mink who passed away in 2002. This huge 269 acre park has walking paths, 20 court tennis center, 4 youth baseball diamonds, 4 regulation sized baseball diamonds, 4 diamond softball complex and the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center.

Personally?  We run around  the park once in awhile) with our poochie or else we go there for picnics. A couple of years ago we had a 2nd Year Birthday party for the program I volunteered for and you can have huge holiday barbeques if you like.

Directions to the Central Oahu Park:

Take H-1 to H-2 freeway west bound towards Wahiawa
Exit 2 at Ka Uka Blvd.
Turn left at the first traffic light after exiting.
Stay on Ka Uka Blvd. until you reach Kamehameha Hwy.
Go straight through the traffic light into park.

The market in Hawaii differs by neighborhood...and that is a fact. In Hawaii Relocations: The Mililani Community on Oahu, Hawaii I showed you the market stats since December of last year until present. It showed quite a bit of inventory although the days on the market and prices did not fluctuate a lot.

In Waipio Gentry the following statistics for single family dwellings and condo/townhouses differ a little more from the Mililani area as this community is quite a bit smaller for one thing. For another the building stopped many years ago so there are less single family homes for sale.

Kathy: Yup!  THAT IS the park you were at right before we met ....LOL.  And right again...Centrally located, Waipio Gentry, Waikele and Mililani are in the 'middle of everything. Easy to get to Waikiki, North Shore or wherever. We are way above sea level as well....a little cooler. Okay...today it's cold outside right now.

Thanks Lola!  I'm trying harder to have balance with the Localism posts too!  Time consuming to get together these stats :)

Katerina: This park is behind our complex and I tried to show the residential, the townhouses and the walking paths....came out really nice.

    Neal:  Yeah...yeah...I'm working it. :)

Ann:  I really appreciate your comments and coming to support me so I keep on the ball with these reports. Thanks bunches!

Sally, I love parks myself and this one looks spectacular.  I could imagine spending the day there in the beautiful weather.  When I finally move I really don't plan to take much of anything with me so a relocation for someone like me wouldn't be all that difficult!  Thanks for sharing your beautiful area.

Teri: No way! This is across the Pacific...sq. ft. of land or interior isn't even the same like in your neck of the woods :)

Carole: Changed the pics. The second one is the big regional park.  This one is the one we take our poochie walking and running on most days behind our house. That's what we try and tell people.....expect smaller!

Sally, you never run out of beautiful places and beautiful pictures.  You're right, I'm SURE that moving to an island a zillion miles away would be a unique experience for most!  Great job, and congrats on the feature in Military Relocations Group.

Sally:  this is a beautiful place... and an excellent military relocation post.  You are such a great writer, but even more a wonderful resource for military families making that challenging (but envious) move to Hawaii.

Thanks Margaret! Takes a little effort to bring Hawaii to this platform and to the consumer so all understand it's a big chore to move...let alone to a strange place with different cultures and market. :)

Randy: YUP....I like that park...right across the highway :)

Matt: Yeah....one day Matt. I sure would like to meet you too!

Gary: We're minutes from all military bases....one would hope we all are geared toward the military :)

Jan: Yup... it is a challenge...I know...I was a military dependent growing up and in the first part of my adult life :)

Cynthia: Thanks a bunch...I know these posts help people who are just coming to the islands.

Sally, I wish we had a facility here like “Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Par”.  It would sure be nice to have that many fields in one location.  Ours here in Middletown, Connecticut and most of the neighboring towns are all over the place.

George:  At some points around the park are views to the ocean. I'm especially fond of this park because Gary and I had picnics when we were dating :)
