Things to Do on The James River in Richmond

It is another scorcher today in Richmond Virginia and many will be heading to The James River for some cool relief. If you are new to Richmond, aka the RVA, or just never had the chance to explore all the great adventures The River has to offer, below you will find a small list of things to do on the James River in Richmond:

Swimming in The James River: there is nothing like splashing around in The James River on a hot day! Pony Pastures or the 42nd Street Rocks are just a few great areas for swimming. Be sure to dress appropriately, including wearing aqua socks or a pair of old shoes, and a life jacket is never a bad idea! One is cautioned NOT to swim in the rapids near Belle Island, but you may use the beach on the east end.

Fishing in The James River: If being one with the fish is what you enjoy, it is easy to find a great spot here! Belle Island, Huguenot Flatwater, Pony Pasture, and Riverside Drive below William's Dam are all excellent places to cast off those rods!

Tubing in The James River: go ahead, be a kid again and take your inner tube to Pony Pasture and make your 3 plus mile way to Reedy Creek. Don't have an inner tube? (Either do I!) Reserve one via Riverside Outfitters!

Kayaking on The James River: If you are experienced in this type of fun, then you can set adrift from 1)Ancarrow's Landing/Manchester Docks at the end of Brander Street. Here you may also set off in your motor boat. 2.)Huguenot Flatwater and Pony Pastures provide wooden boat ramps. 3)If you are advanced enough to take on class IV rapids, then you may start off at Reddy Creek.
