You're a typical jerk....oh  really?  Phoenix Home Buyers Heating Up

The Phoenix real estate market it hot hot HOT, as is the weather.  As a result we've been seeing tempers flare and people acting out in ways their Momma wouldn't be proud of - one tiny bit. And let's not forget to mention it's quite annoying too!

Yesterday we had a rather unpleasant guy call on a brand new listing that had been on the market all of www.phoenixpropertyshoppe.comabout 2 seconds. My assistant took the call and said he was nice the first minute or so but after she asked him if he was working with an agent he started to get pushy and demanding. He wanted to know this and know that - and quite frankly - he wanted to know confidential information of which she is never allowed to disclose. She suggested that he call his agent and ask him/her to call Anna directly. Well he didn't like that solution at all. He yelled at her with a few choice words and then called her a typical jerk and then slammed the phone done.

Really? She's a typical jerk because
she's doing her job correctly?

She's a smart cookie and doesn't get caught up in all the drama.  She simply relayed the scenario to me and asked me if she acted properly.  Of course she did.  The man stated he had is own agent and was asking confidential questions. She offered a simple solution in a polite manner and he rejected it.  Oh well.  Too bad for him it's a really nice home.

And then I read Julie Vosmick's post about an unruly nasty buyer this afternoon!  After reading Julie's post I knew it was high time for me to write a blog post in an attempt to soothe frantic Phoenix Real Estate Home Buyers. It's high time to see if I can't get some folks to see things a bit differently and act differently. In the long run it would be wise to consider the following advice....

I suggest that Phoenix home buyers calm down, take a deep breath and trust their agent.

Yes it is frustrating to lose out on bids - I get that.  It is going to require more patience, not less in this hectic market.  Go for a walk, get an ice cream.... do whatever it takes to get your mind off of the fast paced market. And stop blaming your agent and/or being nasty to other agents.  What is the point? Really?  Do you think you're going to get anywhere by being nasty?  Naaaaaaa it just isn't so.  Consider putting on your best "Sunday' attitude and think positively and act in a pleasant manner. Your Momma would be so proud of you - she really would. And quite frankly you'd be much happier.  The old saying you'll  get attract more bees with honey than vinegar - applies to the Phoenix Real Estate Market when buying a home.

I've heard a few people get angry or upset when things don't go their way but it's rare.  I had an agent scream at me and call me all sorts of names when a contract didn't come together.  In the end, all I remember is her yelling, nothing else.  Personally, if someone is getting torqued up, I just step back and let them cool off.

Hi Anna,

Always fun to get the yellers.

As soon as the foul language starts, we hang up. If they call back and do the foul language thing again, we hang up again.

Nobody on my staff needs to be yelled at or hear swearing!

Typical Jerk?  That's too funny.  People like this aren't worth working with.  Just a headache waiting to happen.  Your assistant did the right thing.

The Phoenix real estate market sounds pretty hot. I'm seeing the same around my area. You are right. Phoenix real estate homebuyers just need to take a deep breath. It's a big mistake to annoy a Phoenix real estate listing agent because they have the control of the Phoenix real estate home buying process. If you are looking to buy a Phoenix home for sale, make sure you make nice with the Phoenix Realtor who has the Phoenix home listed for sale.

What is the old saying about catching something with sugar?  Some folks just do not know how to behave unless they are yelling, condescending and just rude. Well done being a professional.

Anna, your assistant acted appropriate. "A typical jerk!" Yours probably wasn't the first office he called and acted like an idiot.

Your assistant handled this great and did not lose her cool.  What this person did not realize was that he got no brownie point for bad behavior, and also didn't get any answers.  It could be worse, he could have been YOUR client.  Glad the market is heating up in Phoenix!

Dear Anna Bananna,

Hot! Hot! Hot! Yes! It's hot here in Texas too. You might want to read my blog post that I read today. I got beat up by a lender and he left me black and blue!

The old saying is not catching something with sugar... it is about being nice and getting the worm, or something like that, I think ??!!

Bud & Beth....taking a chill break is important for all.

Gina anytime of the year is a good time to act in a respective manner.

Kathy - yes people need to just calm done and breathe!   Getting nuts over buying a home just makes for a very unpleasant experience all the way around.

Charlie - exactly!

Scott - if the buyers are prepared well by their agent they'll know what to expect in a hot market. And sometimes it's takes muliple times bidding and a lot of patience.

Lottie - maybe we could bring in a yoga instructor. Laughing Yoga!

Eric - she did.  And he chose differently.

Elyse - somehow they think they'll be given different information?  Who knows what the motivation is - it just doesn't work that way in the real world.

Mike - I have no idea of what a typical jerk is. I guess he'll need to call back and explain. Naught!

Charles my guess is it's not the first time for this guy and not the last either.

Judi - there you go! That must be what he meant. That makes sense!  We're all doing our job - giving answers he doesn't want to hear so we're typical jerks.  Oy Vey as Mike says....

Tammie  - sellers do want to work with reasonable buyers.  And many times I've seen a buyer chosen out of many simply because they handled themselves respectively - along with a good offer - maybe not the best offer.

Bryan - agents are a different ball game.  What I'm suggesting is the home buyers understand that sugar goes a lot farther....or whatever that saying is.

Jared - I thought so as well.  Ridiculous.

Charita - of course not!

Fernando - yes I did.

Tim - make nice is a smart thing.  We all know what it's like to work with difficult buyers that make every step arduous. If they come in that way it's a pretty good indication it will stay that way.

Gary - professionalism always wins both with how agents conduct themselves...and everyone else!

Michael - that's my guess. He's getting the same response elsewhere.  At some point maybe he'll learn to change his spots.

Pat - probably not a client. We get to know them and explain the process - especially if they're 1st time home buyers.

Patricia - I'll buzz on over and read it.  Did you hang up?

Sandy - whatever the saying is somehow we all know what it means!

Anna, so sorry to hear of such a rude customer, unfortunately there is almost no way to teach manners to someone who does not care.  At least is leaves you with an interesting story for a blog.

I always believe that nice gets nice and the rude people of the world are the real losers as they are missing out on some geat realtionships.  Life is way too short to waste it being nasty to our fellow human beings!

Anna, WOW, people never cease to amaze me especially in the current market we have in the Phoenix metro area.  I just call those type of people SOS (stuck on stupid).

Of course our office gets those calls too and it is shame that the poor person answering the phone or my assistant are the ones that typically get "attacked". . .

Anna, your assistant did the right thing.  I also like your suggestions on how to stay calm because it will not bring any good results if people will just be selfish and disregard other's feelings.  I hope that even in those hot situations, people will still keep their cool and have the right perspective.  Thank you for sharing!
