Soul of Summer featuring Jonathan Butler, Warren Hill and Maysa

When:  July 20

Where:  Strathmore at 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD 20852

What:  Born and raised in Baltimore, soul singer extraordinaire, Maysa, has a passionate following in her hometown.  South African guitarist and singer, Jonathan Butler, exploded onto the American music scene in 1987 after opening for Whitney Houston. Since then, he has gone on to break new ground in R&B, jazz and soul with his soaring vocals and masterful guitar style (AllAboutJazz.com). Canadian saxophonist, Warren Hill, has topped the Smooth Jazz, Adult Contemporary and Top 40 charts. 

 

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

When:  July 20 – August 13

Where:  Imagination Stage at 4908 Auburn Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814

What:  Told through a dazzling fusion of dance, acting and singing - Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter discover fantastic world of Narnia and become embroiled in an epic battle between good and evil.  Recommended for ages 5+.

 

Over The Line Festival

When:  July 20 – July 29

Where:  Round House Theatre Silver Spring at 8641 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910

What:  For those three consecutive weeks, Round House Theatre will host over 10 companies that will give nearly 50 performances from: Contradiction Dance, Clown Cabaret, dog & pony dc, Forum Theatre, Will Gartshore, Happenstance Theater, Emma Jaster, Brianna Letourneau, on the nOse productions, Jon Spelman and Tina Chancey, and Taffety Punk Theatre Company.

 

Childrens’ Summer Art Camp by Creative Adventures

When:  July 20 – July 21

Where:  Creative Adventures at Page Elementary School - 13400 Tamarack Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904

What:  Allow Creative Adventures to introduce your children to classic and contemporary artists from around the world, while exploring a variety of techniques.  We will inspire them with creativity, and encourage them to experiment with art using their extraordinary imaginations. 

 

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

When:   July 21 – September 2

Where:  the Puppet Co. at 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD 20812

What:  When Snow White meets seven vertically challenged bachelors, she soon finds out that each has his own special power, or lack thereof.  Recommended ages: K thru Grade 6.  Running time is 40 minutes. 

 

Main Street Farmer’s Market

When:  July 21

Where:  Main Street Pavilion in the Kentlands at 301 Main Street, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

What:  Open 10am – 2pm every Saturday through November 17

 

Summer Concert Series:  Family Jazz Day

When:  July 22

Where:  Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture - Glen Echo Park Bumper Car Pavilion at 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD 20812

What:  From 3:00 - 3:45 pm: Capital Focus Jazz Band; from 4:00 - 4:45 pm: Jazz Academy All-Stars, from 5:00 - 5:45 pm: Blues Alley Youth Orchestra; from 6:00 - 7:00 pm: U.S. Naval Academy Next Wave.  Eat at the Ballroom Cafe, or bring a picnic.
