Another trip to "The City"

Last weekend was another trip to "The City."   Of course "The City" would be San Francisco.   San Francisco is an easy 90 minutes from Stanislaus County.   Usually when we make the trip "over the hill" we don't have a specific plan in mind.   There is so much to see and do in San Francisco that we always find something that interests us.

On this trip we went up to Twin Peaks.  The view from twin peaks is amazing.  Well it is if the fog doesn't get in the way.   On this day the wind was really blowing and the fog was coming in from the west off of the Pacific.  Fortunately it would blow in and then just as fast blow away.   Then a couple of minutes later it would blow in again.   Then back out it went.

You could actually watch the fog come around both sides of the twin peaks.  Now back to the view.   From Twin Peaks you can see all the way across the city and across San Francisco Bay to the Oakland Hills.   You can look right down (or is it up?) Market Street and see the clock tower on The Ferry Building on the Embarcadero.

To the north are some great views of some of The City's residential neighborhoods.  As you descend Twin Peaks you only have to go a short distance to get "under" the fog.  You could actually see the shadows of the fog crossing the road and have a clear view of the city ahead of you.

We made our way down to the Embarcadero and walked along the water for a while.  With the wind blowing there were lots of sail boats out on the bay.  It was actually a beautiful day in the city with sun shining down by the water.   The Embarcadero is a great place for walking, people watching, dining, and just hanging out in The City.   You can walk the Embarcadero from AT&T Park all the way to Fisherman's Wharf.   Its probably the flattest part of the city and the walking is easy and the view is spectacular.

I'm sure we will be back again soon to explore "The City By the Bay."

Hey Jim,  Never been to that city, but would like to check it out sometime.  We do not get fog much in the Denver area.

jim,  These are amazing pictures.  My hubby and I are planning a trip to Huntington Beach in 4 weeks.  I tried to talk him into a drive up the coast but he thinks San Fran is just too far.

It's 90 minutes for me from Sacramento to The City as well. I love going to San Francisco and try to visit at least twice a year or so, sometimes for no reason. There is always something to do in The City. The energy level is simply invigorating. The shopping, the views, the restaurants, the music, the architecture, the people, museums, parks, I adore The City!!!

Will - You should check it out sometime.

Belinda - It's a pretty long drive from Huntington Beach to San Francisco.  It would take most of the day.

Elizabeth - The funny thing about this trip was that we started out from Sacramento.  We had been in Sacramento for the weekend for the Steve Miller concert at Thunder Valley.

Twin Peaks is probably one of the best places to take pictures -- you were so lucky that it was very clear that day.  As they say, timing is everything!

Next time you go, go to Chrissy Field where you can get close to the Golden Gate Bridge, and probaby even see that famous spot where Kim Novak's character in Vertigo jumped in the water. Fabulous views of the bridge, Alcatraz and the city. Then stop by the Palace of the Arts.

Pacita- I will hav to head over to Chrissy Field next time I am in San Francisco.   Thanks for the tip.

Irene - we had pretty decent weather this time too.  It was just a bit foggy and windy up on twin peaks.

Roy - I haven't come across any photoblogging groups yet, but I really haven't looked for one.   There is probably one that we haven't found yet.
