Smokey Joe's Cafe is Smokin' Hot @ Addison's WaterTower Theatre.
If you're not on your feet, clapping along to the music and dancing in the aisles at the conclusion of the performance of Smokey Joe's Cafe at Addison's WaterTower Theatre, you'd better call the doctor and check for a pulse!
There is no dialogue in this "play," just the words and music of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
"Who," you're asking "are they?"
Let their songs speak for themselves. The most recognizable include:
- Searchin'
- Kansas City
- Poison Ivy
- On Broadway
- Yakety Yak
- Charlie Brown
- Hound Dog
- I'm a Woman
- There Goes My Baby
- Love Potion #9
- Jailhouse Rock
- Spanish Harlem
The songwriting duo met in 1950. Leiber was the lyricist and Stoller wrote the music. Lots of groups and individuals recorded their songs, including Big Momma Thornton, The Clovers, The Drifters, The Coasters, Dion and the Belmonts, and even Elvis.
