The US postal Service unveiled a new Joe DiMaggio postage stamp and Bronx postmark at a ceromony at the main Bronx Post Office Saturday July 21, 2012.
The post mark was created by a local postal employee. A Retail Sales & Service Associate at Hellgate Station in Manhattan, hand drew the postmark as part of a postal employee contest. His winning design included some of the most iconic symbols of DiMaggio's legendary career:
Yankee Stadium, Joe's uniform number, and Joltin' Joe himself stepping up to bat. The special commemorative postmark also shows the date of the Postal Service's first day of issue of its single sheet of DiMaggio stamps and Zip Code 10451, associated with the Bronx.

Joe DiMaggio (1914-1999) was admired for his skill and grace as a fielder and base runner. Best known for his incredible 56-game hitting streak in 1941-the season of "the Streak." DiMaggio led the New York Yankees to 10 pennants and nine World Series titles.

I think that is so cool, Mitchell. What an honor for an amazing baseball legend.
Jeff
I will keep the Joe Stamp in the collection book after the Ruth Stamp. Why did it take so long. Ruth stamp came out in 1983.
Or you could keep the Joltin Joe stamp on the same page as the one below. He delivered flowers to her grave every day.
Very cool honor to Joe Di Maggio. We'll never have to ask again where he's gone Mitchell. Lookiing forward to meeting you on the 31st at The Oyster Bar. Please remember to bring cash, they agreed to such a large group if everything is on one check, so Sheila will use her credit card and everyone will reimburse her with cash. See you then.............
Love it! I will have to go to the website and purchase.....thanks for the post!
Jeff, Thanks. Yes an amazing baseball legend!
Erv, Thanks, That Babe Ruth stamp is great! Only 15 cents in 1983? Is that a US stamp? It looks Arabic. I had the Marilyn stamp. Used them. Both are great stamps to put Joe next to.
Roger, Thanks, Looking forward to meeting you on the 31st. I'll bring cash. It may be a 100 degrees out so I probably won't have their famous New England or Manhattan Clam Chowder.... But the raw Bluepoint Oysters , Little Neck and Cherrystone clams on the half shell...YUM! YUM! It doesn't get better than that + the company - meeting all the great rainers.
Mitchell... thanks for sharing Joe DiMaggio's NYC history to a non-baseball person!
Mitchell,
I love commemorative stamps and always buy them to use, not to collect. This one of Joe DiMaggio is lovely. Thanks for sharing an important moment in New York. Wishing you a great summer. A
Hi Peggy, You're welcome. I'm sure you remember the movie Mrs Robinson and the Simon and Garfunkle song.
Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio
A nation turns it's lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson
Joltin' Joe has left and gone away
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)
BTW: There is a section of the Westside Highway and Riverside Park at Riverside South that is named The Joe DiMaggio Hghway.
