You know at times all this social media, and blogging stuff just confuses the daylights out of me. So if I don't make my points as clearly as possible please, forgive me. But, here's how the story goes.

Actually. I'm over on Facebook and I notice that Steve Loynd is referencing a post he wrote, and was featured for on Active Rain. AR is where I first got introduced to Steve, and I followed and friended him on Facebook. I was rewarded for this "big time," in my opinion, as I discoved, and shared the fact, that Steve is an outstanding photographer. His NH North Country photos are professional quality, very enjoyable. Okay, back to AR. Steve's post is entitled

"two past posts score big years later"

if you're interested in the content jump over and read the post.

this got me curious

So, I was talking with the Mayor yesterday and we were discussing some of the benefits of the "Rain." He's a newbie and while he says he's committed frankly, like many of us he's having a hard time getting started.

I was stressing to him the importance of a strong profile as this is, or can be your cyberspace business/calling card.

Is there a point here, you may be wondering?

Patience please, there is.

AR can and will generate a lot of "google" juice and one of the benefits is that if used properly it will help people, and potential clients find you through categories as opposed to just by name. People then get to view your profile in many cases which allows you to show them your experience, backgound, and contact info.

Here comes the point.

If you're looking to purchase a home in Port Charlotte, Florida, and you need a mortgage, you might "google" port charlotte loan officer.

and who comes up at the top?

you'll have to perform the exercise to find out. But why does that individual show up, at the top? Two reasons...

the first is a blog written back on 3/7/2011, that apparently has a great deal of staying power.

now, I started out by telling you that I don't necessarily understand all this stuff, and I don't. So why it still dominates I don't know, but it does, and I'm okay with that.

also, the next individual mentioned, is the same person, and it is picking up all/most of his postings.

So, the point

Steve's right

after about 16 months I am still reaping the benfits of that posting

and I know that because I read Steve's post and

he got me curious

Hi Jay,

I am confused about the SEO too but I struggle along and I will get calls and emails and they will mention a post over a year ago or more. I just keep plugging along and hoping it is working but making good AR friends in the process.

Jay, I agree!  I've got some posts that i wrote 2 years ago that still rank high, and I don't know why!!!  Not going to worry about it though, it's working for me while I'm sleeping and doing other things!

Congrats to you!  Catchy title, got me curious!

Very interesting. I'm learning more about this whole blogging, SEO, Google Juice, website presence, etc. stuff everyday. Just when I'm in a comfort zone and finally think I've got a handle on it something new pops up and voila I'm back out there picking you know what with the chickens. LOL!!

Good for you!  Those "tags" don't hurt either when it comes to staying power.  Best of luck!

Once again thank you all for your comments. I have read them all and something happened. you all

made me curious

so i tried something different, i "googled" cape coral loan officer, and my AR profile showed up. under it is a subtitle stating blogs containing cape coral, but that was not there last week when i did the same thing.

so i've got tags that reference cape coral, it's the city of my business, it's in my address, and i try to make sure it's referenced when i blog about anything that has or may have a relationship with the cape, and i attempt to blog frequently.

so somewhere in all that i show up on the top.

why? i don't know.

happy blogging.

thanks

jay

Dear Jay,

You are not the first to talk about the long-time value of your past blogs. Now we just need to know, which topics seem to have such power.

Jay, this was so ironic, because at about 2:30am, I decided to google myself, what the heck, and then wrote a post about it today...a bunch of us were on the same wavelength, as I saw a couple of others pop up in the blogroll this morning with the very same thought. History pays in google juice. You did Steve proud!

Dorte,

unfortunately, i have no idea. wish i did.

Gayle,

great minds think alike. that explains why you and Steve had an interest in the topic, the jury is still out on me.

Thanks,

Jay

Bob had shown us that you can look at your past posts and see how much traffic they've recieved. If they are posts generating a lot you might want to consider reposting it with some updates or changes.  I am still needing to do that!

Mike & Marie,

Initially I wondered what the benefits would be. I was certainly okay with sharing my knowledge and experience(s) with others, but then the clients started calling.

I average 5-6 closings from blogging per year. I'm looking to improve those numbers.

good luck
