This was the first day in a long time with no rain. The frogs are very happy...it's hard to walk on the driveway in the evening without running into one of them.  The peke-a-poo, Zoe, is convinced that they are some sort of squeeze toy.  So far she hasn't been able to get one and she should be glad about that, I'm feeling certain that she wouldn't like the taste.

Obviously, the conditions have been perfect for mushrooms.  I noticed several clusters while I was out mowing the yard.  The pine cone fell from the spruce tree, that's what's left when the squirrels get through with them.

Hi Mona,  They're popping up here too because of all the rain we've had.   I don't let the dogs near them.

Joan, I don't think I'd ever trust my own mushroom picking skills...I'm breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it, lol.

Elyse, I know what you mean...not good at all for the dogs...frogs either.

I think we've had TWO days without rain, still hot and humid though.  And I'll just get my mushrooms from the supermarket too.

Mona, we have had some rain, but need more.  I saw some large mushrooms in the yard a few weeks ago...next time I'll take a photo like you :)

Hi Mona, we haven't had enough rain for mushrooms to pop up. But just thinking about them brings back a lot of happy memories ... hiking with my parents, venturing away from the trails, picking mushrooms until the basket was full. We always had to stop at my grandpa's house on our way home b/c he was the expert and would make sure they were all edible ... thanks Mona!

Mona,

You're weather is so different than ours.  Here in California it is sunny most of the summer months.  In fact that's what summer means to me - warm weather. In El Dorado Hills where I live we are having temperatures during the days in the high 80s to high 90s now.  At night it will cool down to where you can open your windows and enjoy the cooler air for the most part.

Have a good week!

Mona. I wondered where all the rain went this year! Now I know. Some knowledgable people hunt and pick mushrooms. They know the edible from the poison ones.

Good morning again Mona. Wonderful picture. So glad that Zoe didn't get a frog. Just the thought gives me chills.

Hi Tammy, congratulations on your Ambassadorship!  Supermarket mushrooms work for me.  We've had one day so far without rain...maybe today will be like that too.

Rebecca, mushrooms make great photo subjects...they don't move like leaves.

Andrea, I like hearing about your happy memories they are always so easy to visualize.

DeeDee, those are pretty much our temperatures too. It does cool off with the rain but then heats back up.   The nights however are lovely.

Valerie, you don't have to look any further than Western NC to find all the precipitation.

Sheila, Zoe is determined to play with these frogs but I think I can keep her from them.

Hi Mona,

I really like the picture and yes they are huge. Are they poisonous? I never let my dogs get near them for fear of making them sick or worse. My mother was from the south and she always had terrible stories about bad mushrooms so I buy mine at the grocery store.

Steve, thank you and what an incredible doe and fawn photo.  I'll keep that image with we through the day.

Kristin, they were really sort of an ordinary size but the photo makes them look huge.  I don't think I'd ever just chop them up and toss them into a salad.  Uh huh, not me.

Patricia, they were shy and refused to sit for the photo ;-D
