All Three F. Scott Resident Theatre Companies Recognized
ROCKVILLE, Md., July 23, 2012 - Rockville's F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre resident companies were recently recognized for excellence at the annual Ruby Griffith Awards.
The Rockville Little Theatre performing company was the second runner up in the Play category for "A View from the Bridge". Featuring local performers, the Rockville Musical Theatre group earned Best Musical for "Kiss Me Kate" and the Victorian Lyric Opera Company's "Die Fledermaus" was second runner up in the Musical category.
The Ruby Griffith Awards is an annual award competition open to amateur theatre groups meeting the established criteria for "all-round production excellence." The competition is designed to elevate the quality of local amateur theatre and reward outstanding achievement. A panel of judges specially trained and appointed from within the membership of the British Players judge the performances.
The award competition was originally instituted in honor of the contributions of Ruby L. Griffith, founding member and Artisitic Director of the British Players. She produced and/or directed seven of the British Players first fourteen productions before suffering a fatal cerebral hemorrhage on the opening night of one of her productions.
Rockville's F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre is a 446-seat facility for the performing arts used by both community theatrical groups and professional touring companies. Besides stage performances, the theater and its Social Hall are available for conferences, seminars and other large meetings. The theater is located in Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, MD 20851.
